So, yep, I've had enough of desktop PC's -- I give up, lol.
Now, I'm looking at purchasing a laptop. Not specifically for gaming. That's why I have my PS3, lol. So it's mostly gonna be for my artwork. PhotoShop, Movie Making Programmes, aswell as iTunes, etc...

I'd like something really good, but at the same time, affordable.

I have been looking at this one here: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/125...q-tx-laptop-win

I know most of them are also pre-loaded with Windows Vista, which I'm not a fan of, so I'll be swapping that back to XP, lol.

Any suggestions for a great laptop? lol.

Thanks. woho.gif

Hi Morph,

A few years ago I would say that's a great idea. I bought my laptop for gaming and one that could handle several applications at the same time. The laptops are great, but for a short period of time, as they'll be outdated very quickly. A desktop computer is easier to update (graphic cards, motherboards, processors, etc).

But, I'm sure you know all that! eh eh Just make sure you buy a laptop with a very good processor and good RAM ( 3 + GB), to handle your software. Photoshop is quite a "heavy" programme and you'll always have more stuff running at the same time.

I hate compaqs... but that's just me! I prefer Toshiba, Sony or Asus...

I'm watching you...

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Compaq either, but I need something I can afford. If I had the money, I'd be getting a Sony VAIO, lol.

Thanks BP! smile.gif

Just make sure it has an ati or nvidia card built in and not Intel graphics. You'll have a chance at playing some games on it then.
Anything Core Duo is cheap right now and the rest is how much ram and hard drive. Get the 17 inch if you can you won't regret it later.

I have this one listed here. You can look at the specs. It can pretty much do anything and it's price was great. I got it on sale for $550 us at Staples last year.

I've gone with Dell for my past 2 laptops and they've given fantastic service to me.
Their desktops aren't great, but for laptops...pretty good. You pay a bit more but I've had 0 problems from either one and you can custom build it.
Dunno if they deliver to Australia though, but I'd think so.

The other day, Mia (my daughter) bless her, accidentely spilt water on my keyboard and it ended up being completely broken.
Thankfully, they provide a backup system so I could transfer all my work to my other laptop, plus they came out on New Years Eve to my house and replaced the keyboard for me. This was on the standard 1 year warranty, by the way.

The other thing I can think of is a MAC...though I've heard they're extremely overpriced, but I've never had one so I can't say. I have also heard they're good for arts/design though.

Hope it helps!

So many choices, lol. Yeah, I do like DELLs stuff, they're pretty good.

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Now, to pick one I like, lol.

Thanks again! smile.gif

I'm not a fan of Compaqs either. I've worked on quite a few for service, and had 2 of my own. Right now I have a Sony Vaio which is awesome! HP & Dell are good ones as well as Toshiba. The specs BP mentioned are good for what you need. Make sure you get one with a nice-sized hard drive if you plan on storing a lot of your artwork, plus movies & music.

Since they get outdated so quickly, I've found it's much better to save up for a nice one than to get by with a basic one for now. Some even have DVD/CD burners in them, which is great!

Awesome! I guess I'll wait for now and try saving up for a Sony Vaio -- I'd really like one of those, lol.
