  1. I've finished it! And it was good! The game took me a good 10 hours to complete, which compared to Legend and Anniversary is about 3 hours longer for me. I liked the ending, and I agree that we should make a seperate thread...lots to talk about! Enjoy the rest of the game other people! MsC
  2. You know there's a mode you unlock after finishing Underworld called 'Treasure Hunter', right? It's a mode where all the puzzles are solved and the monsters aren't there so you can leisurely find the relics/treasures. I thought the same as you, BP! I was in the room for ages trying to figure out how to get there in case a treasure was there...then after about 40 minutes I moved on MsC
  3. PS3 for me...I'm rather obsessed with games running to their optimum as I'm a perfectionist (I know, I'm weird) and since my Laptop can't run Underworld to the max, I thought I'd get it on my PS3! MsC
  4. I'm in Mexico! I had to stop playing after Croft Manor, it was rather overwhelming. I love this game so far, and the story is brilliant, though one thing I do find rather annoying is not the voice acting itself, rather the lines... *DO NOT READ below if you have not finished the Mediterranean* *DO NOT READ below if you have not finished Croft Manor* MsC EDIT: Something non-spoilerific. From the get-go, I turned my settings to their hardest and hid everything...and boy did that make this game so much more harder! I was stuck in a room in the Med due to me not knowing how to solve a puzzle (I assume the tips did it for you) and I was determined not to use Lara's help and after a while it got really frustrating and my anger solved the puzzle! Woo! It made completing the Med a good 2 hours though, so if you like classic Core Design raidering, I'd suggest turning them all off.
  5. I pre-ordered the game online to get the limited edition and it was supposed to arrive today, but the Royal Mail are rubbish...so I probably won't get it until tomorrow now, but still, I can wait 1 more day for Lara...just 1 though, otherwise I may complain. MsC
  6. I played and finished it in one day, but with a game so focused on moving fast I wasn't expecting length so that doesn't bother me too much. I liked it overall, I found the story quite intriguing, if not confusing at times, but I guessed the twists spot on mostly due to the limited number of characters, but the twists weren't important to the gameplay. I liked the acrobatics and fighting and after discovering that there's a trophy for not firing a gun at anybody I thought I'd go for it. It's extremely frustrating during the later parts of the game, but I liked the challenge. Overall a good game, but would I recommend someone pay full price for it? To be honest, no, wait for it to drop in price in my opinion. MsC
  7. lol, join the rest of Europe and some other parts of the world Only one more day to wait, Fusion! She's coming to us tomorrow! MsC
  8. It was most likely due to the framerate. It was a last-gen game afterall and was designed to run on the PS2, and adding far too much plant clutter would slow the game down, which is why they created that level afterall, to test the environments out. MsC
  9. I think we're being a tiny bit harsh, they weren't even offering the PS2 version in the first place. Sure, they had all the sound files, level designs, etc, but making a game next-gen to last-gen isn't as easy as making a game last-gen to next-gen. Some things on the PS2 version aren't going to be possible as they would be on the next-gen versions, like certain moves, ways to traverse..etc. So they're probably going to have to create alternate ways to get around levels, plus I doubt the moves will be mo-capped so they have to create completely new animations and last-gen textures. They're also not going to release a game that won't work, that would be a stupid move and the reason they have delayed it in the first place. What I can see as annoying is how Eidos have been extremely tight-lipped about this until about a week before the game is released on other systems. This news should have been released a long time ago MsC
  10. No, quite right, I agree with you there...which is why I think they will (hopefully...) think of another way to stop it without this silly 'limited installations' rubbish, but SecuROM was created due to piracy...they just need to think of a better way of doing it...trial keys are a good idea, however they have to allow multiple ones to work incase someone loses theirs...though maybe due to the large growth of the internet, you can get your key online and it's stored their forever so it's not lost and only you can install it. In the end though, I think companies will create their own Steam Network to stop it. MsC
  11. And people wonder why companies add things like SecuROM. It annoys me a bit, I've never torrented anything because I feel far too guilty to do it. I can't remember the company, but one of them actually made a loss on their game due to it being pirated by millions, however if people had bought the game, a profit would have been made. It'll change though, I think. In the future, they'll think of something clever to stop piracy. Just to warn those who do not want to be spoiled, I would also avoid YouTube completely until you complete the game if you search for Tomb Raider: Underworld related stuff. ALL of the cutscenes from the game are on YouTube and you may not realise until you play them what they are...so huge story spoilers. I haven't watched any of them thankfully, one thing I'll never spoil for myself is main plot points and the ending. MsC
  12. but the noise she made slightly worried me, i think she meant it lol It kind of makes me think... MsC
  13. Nice creations, Tom! Love the standing up one too, so thank you Gia for getting us that one! Thanks for the updates, too! MsC
  14. That's rather unfair really, I've seen it on other websites so...what's up? Well, if I can't post a link to it directly, it is on http://www.gametrailers.com so search for it there for the time being. Speaking of it, though, it's really quite good. One of the best launch trailers I've ever seen. MsC
  15. Wanna swap!? I pre-ordered from GAME in the UK and got the Limited Edition, but a figurine?! Awesome, but still the Limited Edition should be pretty awesome too. She uses the oxygen bottle during the Med level, but not in any other level. From what I can tell on videos though, is that it suddenly appears on her body when you enter the water in the Med...which I think is a bit lazy animation wise, they could have at least showed her putting it on. Still, it will be rather nice exploring underwater without thinking "Gotta find an air pocket!" and taking the time to swim around...I'm rather looking forward to the Med! MsC
  16. I agree, I thought it was insanely long too. I don't know if this was just in the demo version or something, but it does seem abnormaly lengthy. It probably falls under the 'What could Lara do?' category, and they thought that if she's a fit woman, she should be able to hold her breath for a long time...the longest record ever achieved though was 4 minutes, so she is becoming a bit of a superhuman... The silver lining, however, is that this should mean some pretty lengthy water sequences in tombs. I always felt they were a bit rushed in Legend and Anniversary. MsC
  17. Do you mean how if you swim past her yacht towards the horizon she just stops moving onwards? I found that a bit amateur too, but obviously they couldn't let it go on forever and the clichéd getting stuck in the room you begin in has been done far too often previously, but I don't know how they could 'mask' it from happening so it doesn't look so fake. They could have done the whole 'Character tells you not to go that way' thing, which I guess in some way fits Lara's character well since she said she needed to move inland, so they could have just had her go "I need to go further inland..." as you reached the border of the level and had you automatically turn back around. I agree with the AI...it's rather bad, however I've found the fights in this game much more challenging which I'm happy with. In Anniversary, I could pretty much get through the entire game without taking damage from any of the enemies due to them being far too easy to dodge, however (Though this may be due to dodgy camera issues since I have been leapt onto from a Tiger I had no idea was behind me) Underworld's dodging is still good if you master it, but a lot harder. I haven't managed to get through the demo without at least being hurt by a tiger yet...which I'm happy with! MsC
  18. It gives you minus 50 if you get it wrong regardless of how wrong you get it. I got all 11...but you can cheat a bit ..the 11th one I was expecting to be a bit more special since it's the last one but it's still nice to see, and it's a nice game! The grapple bits were the hardest for me. I let it go straight to the edge of the bar once and then let it drop down before pressing space bar the second time it goes to green. That way gives you more time to prepare. To cheat a bit you just MsC
  19. Here is some text about Xilbalba. I've read about it a lot since hearing it would appear in Underworld and www.Wikipedia.com...oddly, has the most accurate and easy to read information about it, so I've taken the information from there. As it states, the Lords of Xilbalba tested people who entered with traps that they could not escape from...only to humiliate or kill them...so expect Lara to face some puzzles she'll have trouble escaping from. If you're more interested in what we may see in Underworld, skip straight to 'Structure' rather than reading the entire text. Xibalba From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. In Maya mythology Xibalba (IPA: /ʃɨbɒlbə/), roughly translated as "Place of fear",] is the name of the underworld, ruled by Mayan spirits of disease and death. In the 16th-century Verapaz, the entrance to Xibalba was traditionally held to be a cave in the vicinity of Cobán, Guatemala. To some of the Quiché descendants of the Maya people living in the vicinity, the area is still associated with death. Cave systems in nearby Belize have also been referred to as the entrance to Xibalba. Another physical incarnation of the road to Xibalba as viewed by the Quiché peoples is the dark rift which is visible in the Milky Way. Inhabitants Xibalba is described in the Popol Vuh as a court below the surface of the Earth. It is unclear if the inhabitants of Xibalba are the souls of the deceased or a separate race of beings worshipping death, but they are often depicted as being human-like in form. The place Xibalba was associated with death and was ruled by twelve gods or powerful rulers known as the Lords of Xibalba. The first among the Lords of Xibalba were One Death and Seven Death. The remaining ten Lords are often referred to as demons and are given commission and domain over various forms of human suffering: to cause sickness, starvation, fear, destitution, pain, and ultimately death. The remaining residents of Xibalba are thought to have fallen under the dominion of one of these Lords, going about the face of the Earth to carry out their listed duties. Structure Xibalba was a large place and a number of individual structures or locations within Xibalba are described or mentioned in the Popol Vuh. Chief among these was the council place of the Lords, the five or six houses that served as the first tests of Xibalba, and the Xibalban ballcourt. Also mentioned are the homes of the Lords, gardens, and other structures indicating that Xibalba was at least a great city. Xibalba seemed to be rife with tests, trials and traps for anyone who came into the city. Even the Road to Xibalba was filled with obstacles: first a river filled with scorpions, a river filled with blood, and then a river filled with pus. Beyond these was a crossroads where travellers had to choose from between four roads that spoke in an attempt to confuse and beguile. Upon passing these obstacles one would come upon the Xibalban council place, where it was expected visitors would greet the seated Lords. Realistic mannequins were seated near the Lords to confuse and humiliate people who greeted them, and the confused would then be invited to sit upon a bench, which was actually a hot cooking surface. The Lords of Xibalba would entertain themselves by humiliating people in this fashion before sending them into one of Xibalba's deadly tests. The city was home to at least six deadly houses filled with trials for visitors. The first was Dark House, a house that was completely dark inside. The second was Rattling House or Cold House, full of bone-chilling cold and rattling hail. The third was Jaguar House, filled with hungry jaguars. The fourth was Bat House, filled with dangerous shrieking bats, and the fifth was Razor House, filled with blades and razors that moved about of their own accord. In another part of the Popol Vuh, a sixth test, Hot House, filled with fires and heat, is identified. The purpose of these tests was to either kill or humiliate people placed into them if they could not outwit the test. Downfall of Xibalba Xibalba was home of a famous ballcourt in which the heroes of the Popol Vuh succumbed to the trickery of the Xibalbans in the form of a deadly, bladed ball, as well as the site in which the Maya Hero Twins outwitted the Xibalbans and brought about their downfall. According to the Popol Vuh, the Xibalbans at one point enjoyed the worship of the people on the surface of the Earth, who offered human sacrifice to the gods of death. Over the span of time covered in the Popol Vuh, the Xibalbans are tricked into accepting counterfeit sacrifices, and then finally humiliated into accepting lesser offerings from above. Anthropologist Dennis Tedlock has speculated that this version of history may be a Quichean slander on earlier Mayan forms of worship. The role of Xibalba and the Xibalbans after their great defeat at the hands of the hero twins is unclear, although it seems to have continued its existence as a dark place of the underworld long after. Enjoy! MsC
  20. Woohoo, I'm off to watch Quantum of Solace in 20 minutes! I'm rather excited from watching all the trailers... I shall edit this post later with my opinion of it! MsC EDIT: Ok, just come back from the cinema. I found the storyline of the film rather confusing and found it difficult to follow it, so I suggest if you watch Quantum of Solace, don't try to focus too much on the villain's motives, because they really aren't that important to the storyline. The action sequences are superb but the shaky camera can be somewhat annoying and makes the action hard to follow occasionaly, but they rival Casino Royale, as does the music. There's a fantastic homage to an earlier bond film that I will not mention here as I don't want to spoil it, but it's fantastic and is a nice touch. The acting is great, I don't have many complaints in that department, however the many different accents of the different characters can be difficult to hear so you might miss some of what they are saying. In my opinion, is the film better than Casino Royale? No...but is it better than most other bond films of the last two decades? Yes. Bring on the sequel. I would have given Casino Royale a 9/10, and Quantum of Solace gets an 8/10 for me.
  21. I went through the demo again and counted the ones I had found and it totaled 11, so I guess I found them all. I don't know how you know there's 11 either, is there a way to find out like a statistics page? MsC
  22. @Shrensh. To do the handstand, you hold down the jump button (climb button) instead of just pressing it. Also if you hold shift underwater, she'll dolphin swim which is a nice feature. I found 4 secrets in the beginning area...I think I've found them all, I'm not so sure though...here they are if you want to know them. MsC EDIT: I just remembered that in an interview, it said that if you play the game as linearly as possible, you'll only see 50% of the game...a whole 50% dedicated to exploring! Wooo!
  23. It starts from the beginning again. I didn't see a save option available, it appears to be greyed out in the options menu, but it'll be in the full game! It's awesome! MsC
  24. So, I've just finished the demo, and I'm mostly impressed...mostly. Firstly what strikes me most about this game is how much more the environment has evolved. Underworld's Coastal Thailand level is eye-stunningly beautiful to look at in the first 3 seconds of the game and is drop-dead gorgeous even without the settings maxed. Beautiful locations! Secondly, I'm rather impressed with the new skill getting the artefacts has become. Some are very easy...and some are not so easy to find, e.g. some require cracking open a pot, and others require finding their secret locations. Without a walkthrough, I predict finding these artefacts will be challenging...perfect, especially over 'Legend'. Alternate routes around the area help find you hard to reach secrets What I'm not so impressed with however is the camera. It tends to be the tool that ruins the game completely and with such a stunning game, it's a shame the camera is so difficult to control on a PC. I've heard the same for the 360 users, and I hope the same troubles are not in the final build of the game. It can be infuriatingly frustrating when Lara jumps the completely wrong way from where you intended her to go and makes combat so much more difficult than it should be. The generosity of the health pickups was a problem for me too. In the player tailoring, I had it set to the hardest difficulties and somehow always found myself unphased as I had plenty of medipacks in reserve. I could of course just not picked any up, but I would still like it to be a bit more challenging as I don't feel the need to be careful. One of my favourite moves! Lara's gymnastics are still as fantastic as ever and add to the variety of traversing around the level, plus it's a nice detail. Speaking of details.... "I saw something crawling over there..." Lizards running around you, foliage moving with the wind and reacting to your body, beautiful music cues...the details are just fantastic and I hope they're in each level. Every time I play the demo, I find something else crawling out of the corner of my eye and it's detail like this that truly makes it feel next-gen. Overall I was impressed with the demo, I just hope some of the little problems are sorted for the release of the game. I look forward to hearing your views and seeing your screenshots! MsC
  25. Probably not, though I wish it would be because I'd be getting it in 2 and a half hours! It'll probably be something like 10am GMT tomorrow. Though I'll check it out tomorrow morning before I head to work to see if it's available and just leave it downloading so I can test it out when I get home! Woohoo! MsC
