  1. They didn't reboot with Underworld but they rebooted with Legend. It seems more than anything they want a completely fresh start with the entire brand. Her biography has been changed but it's more or less the original biography except for a Himalayan plan crash, it's a ship crash in Japan. Apart from using that as a bio. template it seems they want to start the entire brand again with no baggage from previous eras. No, as I said previously to J7, this is a new continuity. They could have easily made this after Underworld with Lara on an island needing to survive but with so many people disliking the parent storyline and feeling that CrystalD were beginning to decline in quality, it seems they wanted to forget everything and just start fresh. While I was incredibly annoyed with the Legend reboot, this one doesn't bother me as much because I felt the Lara from that continuity didn't really feel "Lara" as much as she could. This is a fresh start for everything including gameplay too. The gameplay has turned to Open-World Survival Action-Adventure which seems a pretty natural evolution of where Tomb Raider could go. Safe to say I'm very excited about this .
  2. Tomb Raider Revealed Game Informer That is all.
  3. *From memory so won't be completely accurate* Move the giant pillar with Thor's Belt and Gauntlets. There's a ledge that you can jump up to on the left pillar (when standing in front of Thor's statue) so you can climb up onto the top of that pillar. Then ummm... errr... *thinks* grapple the ring, and quickly swing and jump to the ledge before the blue evil water rises and you should be able to work you're way back up using nearby ledges from where you are . I don't think you actually need to move the giant pillar but I do it anyway lol.
  4. No cheats, no extra outfits, no time trials. Just some concept art. There's no option to replay cutscenes from the menu nor to replay levels in full. Once you complete the game, the "Treasure Hunt" mode lets you replay the game "after" Lara's finished the adventure so some areas aren't accessible due to whatever reason. They had some really good extras in Legend and Anni. so it's a real shame that the extras are lacking in Underworld .
  5. I mean the only review site that seems to have gotten the memo about "Don't post a score less than 8" is Gamespot. The review embargo was lifted on Thursday when Eurogamer and IGN revealed their reviews (7/10, 7.5/10, IGN UK gave it 8.5/10). Gamespot would have done it the same day, yet they didn't and they're apparently putting it down to "Eidos told us". But... no other site with a lower score didn't not post their review. They all posted them. I usually wouldn't give a second thought to saying something bad about Eidos but to me, this fiasco just seems someone has an agenda. Look at me, the conspiracy theorist .
  6. It doesn't make sense considering Eurogamer gave it a 7/10 days before the Gamespot one was to be issued. Me just thinks it's a case of putting people off Eidos titles rather than any genuine complaint or concern. PSU also gave it a 6/10 and the Oz Official PS Magazine gave it a 5, again, all days/weeks before Gamespot.
  7. Completed the game a few hours ago on the PS3. Absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed the ending. I thought it'd be a bit longer with a bit more finality but I enjoyed it all the same. Quite tense at one point. Wish I could sya more but I don't want to spoil nor even put it in spoiler code because no doubt some of you will just WANT to read it .
  8. I'd have posted this earlier but dinner got in the way From the official Tomb Raider site: Source One chapter will add six hours of gameplay set after the game has finished while the other will be set around a new playable character.
  9. This feature sounds brilliant. Wonder how many fans will select the hardest options (like me, yay!)? It'll be fun fiddling about the options and see how much it truly affects the game =).

  11. Some good stuff there . Epic, isolation, twice as long as Legend - what more could one want (other than 4 times as long as Legend)?
  12. Merry Christmas all, hope you all had - or are having - a great time .
  13. Don't be surprised if you find things that look exactly the same or similar, Crystal Dynamics went on location to Mayan places and photographed the areas so the Mayan surroundings in-game look authentic =).
  14. Tomb Raider: Underworld F.A.Q. Name: Tomb Raider: Underworld Developer: Crystal Dynamics, Nixxes Software, Santa Cruz Games, Buzz Monkey Software, EA Mobile Publisher: Eidos Interactive Formats: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, P.C., Nintendo DS, Wii and PlayStation 2 (which will be released some time in the New Year). Release Date: November 18th 2008 (US), November 21st (EU), Januarary ? (PS2 only) Length: ~12 - 20 hours. Trailers and Gameplay Vignettes: Teaser Trailer Plot: Lara discovers from a family friend that her father discovered what could possibly be the location of Thor's Hammer, a weapon used by the Norse God that has the ability to shatter mountains and kill Gods. But it may be Lara herself that brings upon the ruin of all civilization and in full knowledge of this, she heads out in search of the fabled artefact. Characters: Lara Croft: The famous archaeologist-adventurer has had personal tragedies and great credit to her name. At the age of nine, her plane crashed in the Himalayas where her mother mysteriously disappeared and presumed killed after pulling out a sword in a dias. After miraculously making a ten-day trip to Kathmandu, she politely phoned her father to ask her to pick her up and afterward barely left his side. For the next six years, Lara, along with her father Richard Croft, went for archaeological site to site picking up everything she needed to know to become an archaeologist herself. When she was fifteen Richard went missing and the human remains that turned up could not be identified which saw Lara and her family put into a bitter feud as to who would inherit the Croft estates and title. Lara eventually won but has become isolated from the rest of the Croft family. Lara has found fifteen sites which have been credited with international interest but her methods have been called into question - is she just a cheap, glorified grave robber or is she an archaeological wonder-woman? Regardless, Lara never gives any interviews and chooses to give formal statements through her lawyers and she remains one of the world's most enigmatic and mysterious figures of the modern world. Zip Alister Winston Smith Amanda Jacqueline Natla Gameplay and Game-world changes: Lara: Lara will react to the weather - rain will run down her body realistically and gradually wash away any dirt on her body as will jumping into a pool of water. Lara will lip-sync realistically and have realistic facial animation. As Lara runs through flora, she will cover her face as not to get hit by their leaves and branches. Lara's movements are being motion-captured by Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker. Sprinting is back from TR3, while shooting while climbing and climbing onto poles are new features for players to get to grips with. Lara can wall jump now. The Enemies: Lara will fight a Kraken in Underworld's first level which will feature a multi-staged puzzle as well. Mercenaries are returning as well as black panthers. Sharks are returning in Underworld. Naga (acid-shooting lizards), tigers, bats and spiders will feature in Underworld. Enemies will fight each other if needed. Panthers will try and take down mercenaries while the mercenaries will fight back to survive. Lara can use this to her advantage to go by unnoticed. Talking about enemies, they've been replaced by bleeding versions for Underworld. Yes, blood is back Gore Raiders ; ). The World: The game will start in a burning Croft Manor before a flashback will occur to the Mediterranean Sea level. It is confirmed Lara will be raiding the Mediterranean Sea and Mayan ruins in South Mexico. Thailand will also be featured in the game along with Arctic areas and Croft Manor. Introduced into Underworld is a realistic, dynamic weather system. Rain, thunder and lightning all exist in Lara's world. A new lighting system has been introduced to give a more realistic lighting effect. Lara has more than twelve layers of skin so that different lighting will react differently to her. An improved physics engine has been introduced. Footprints will be left in the mud and will gradually be washed away by rain and bodies and broken environment will remain afterward. The game-world has been opened up allowing multiple ways to progress through the game. All cutscenes within the game are used using the in-game engine. The "Interactive Cutscenes" have been ripped out and new "Adrenaline Moments" replace them. Instead of specific button presses, time slows down and gives the player a chance to get out of harm's way in whatever way they wish and in doing so, the player retains complete control of Lara. Movement: Lara can dual-aim meaning she can aim at two targets at once and shoot at both of them at the same time. Lara's combat has been upgraded allowing more melee attacks and combat is now more focused on evasive moves to allow Lara to attack the enemy without harming herself. The camera system has been given an overhaul allowing the camera to give cinematic views while still allowing the player complete control of the camera. With the overhaul, Crystal Dynamics are also able to provide directional hints without making it too obvious. Gears, Weapons and Vehicles: Dual pistols and [sticky] grenades return. As does the grapple. Dual pistols can be fired underwater. Sticky grenades, a spear gun and a tranquilizer gun have been introduced into Tomb Raider: Underworld. Uzis and the Shotgun are also returning allies. Lara can also use items she picks up such as poles to attack enemies. Lara's motorbike will return but will be needed to complete puzzles instead of just being a means from A to B. Lara will have multiple outfit changes throughout the game including a black and yellow wetsuit with scuba gear allowing for more exploration underwater. Additionally she will also have a long sleeved top and trouser outfit. Lara travels with sonar equipment. When used it will send out sonar pings which reflect off surfaces and creating a 3D map of the area. It can be used underwater and above water. Lara will also carry with her a camera which she will speak into and can take pictures with. Players will also have the ability to take pictures (with or without Lara in them) and upload them to the internet for other players to download.
  15. Woohoooooooo!!!! You know what this means! Yup! Tomb Raider Underworld news will soon be flooding us while we drown in the information! Wooohoooo!!! Thanks for the article Timothy Tom and Gia .
  16. And he has, LoL. I'll close this since the problems are fixed (for now at least, a lot of you know what computers are like with me).
  17. J - why don't you play TRA with your girls? Get them started on TR now? =). As for Time Trials, the best tip is to learn the levels. After that it should be pretty easy. Granted that's not how I beat all the time trials, I just happen to be able to speed through levels when I want, LoL but it's a lot easier once you learn the levels and can do them pretty fast in the other difficulties. Also, you have all your weapons after you complete the game so if you're having difficulty you can always use more powerful guns to kill the enemies quicker. Oh, and adrenaline dodge is your friend.
  18. J - you can always put the subtitles on to understand what they're saying. I liked the commentaries, the only problem I had is if I died they would be cut off and I'd have to listen to the whole thing again just to get back to where I was and sometimes they just randomly cut off themselves which is annoying.
  19. Reload the level so that the spinning puzzle has reset, kill the two Cat Mummies and then spin the bottom left spinning thing 180 degrees and then spin the top right one 180 degrees and ta-dah, puzzle done =). And if you want a video of it, gimme about 30 minutes and I'll get it up for you.
  20. Nice pics Mike =). Picture overload of me these past couple of days due to the beach and school buddying (taking the new pupils around the school on their two-day induction course. Lets just say I was more excited than them, LoL).
  21. I played this level again today and I'm a bit fuzzy but put in the red and green fuses and then push the two buttons until the red fuse button's light is yellow and the green fuse button's light is green. Get out and jump onto the boxes with the single box on top of it (the big green boxes). Pick up the small medipack if you haven't already and then jump onto the box that the fuses move. Shimmy to the left and to the corner and then if you look back there's a walkway which you can backwards jump to. Follow that path and then take a right when you see two openings (you may have to look for it) and go down the two ladders and then use the cave and ledges to go downwards and into the bottom space with the blue fuse. That is actually less confusing than it sounds, LoL. Shrensh's way sounds interesting, haven't thought of trying it that way.
  22. Enemies do more damage and you take more damage when you fall. As far as I know that's it, everything else is the same.
  23. Raise all the slopes and platforms and then run back and grab the box you pulled out. Pull it to the slope that leads to the relic and push the box into the crack in the slope. Run back up to the start and jump all the slopes and platforms and then onto the slope that leads to the relic. The slope won't go down due to the box so you'll be able to jump and grab the ledge and grab the relic =). Without the box the slope retracts too fast - it retracts before you even get near it. With the box you'll be able to adjust the camera with no problem.
