kyuso Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Has anyone successful run Tomb Raider Trilogy under linux? I used to play Tomb Raider 1 a long time ago, and even ran it under dos emulator in linux after I transitioned fully to linux. Now that I bought Tomb Raider Trilogy, I would like to know if it can run under linux in any way possible. Since I no longer have Windows OS on my PC, I can't play them under Windows. I didn't tear the wrap yet since I'll be returning it for full refund if there is no way to run this under linux, and I'm in no mood to re-partition/install windows just for games. Quote
kyuso Posted September 9, 2007 Author Report Posted September 9, 2007 Sorry to reply myself, but after searching through the internet, I found an open source software called OpenRaider (http://openraider.sourceforge.net/) Well, after downloading the source and fixing a few bugs to finally build the code, I found that it can basically render the maps and characters and have Lara Croft move around the map, but that's just about it. And it's last updated in 2004, and don't see any activities beyond that. Oh well, it looked so promising. I'll try wine, or return the game for full refund and wait until linux version is available (yea right). Quote
Shrensh Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Good luck Helokity Can't help you myself because I have exactly zero experience with Linux, but let us know if you find a solution to the problem. I'm sure a few members here will be interested in what happens. (I'm going to move this to the Technical Help board. It might get some attention from someone else who uses Linux there ). Quote
Tom@LCO Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 I've tried a few and Xandros was best for me so far. Linspire or Freespire aren't what they are cracked up to be resolution is low and hardware is hit and miss. Ubuntu the install res was so low I could click ok or see ok to click it. I try Linux once every so often to see how close it gets to windows but it's close but no cigar. I also tried a friends Mac and to me it's a bunch of shortcuts on a menu bar and no meat and potatoes. I also tried Vista and that needs a service pack or two before I'll use it. For me XP is the best OS so far and if you wanna play old games buy Win 98SE and make a dual boot. Quote

youknowwhoo Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hello as far as I know Tomb Raider II, III and Chronicles are running perfectly on play on linux (http://www.playonlinux.com/en/)...I have also tried to run Tomb Raider IV but after instalation it showed an error. Play on linux is an extended GUI for wine with some extra functions. It offers specially prepared scripts made by their team, which make available to run for instance our precious TR2 without any problems on any TuX-like machine. Quote
zakarjor Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Has anyone successful run Tomb Raider Trilogy under linux? I bought it after I removed my Windows partition knowing that they would work in wine. Actually, I already had an original Tomb Raider 1 which works fine in dosbox, so now I have two copies of it. Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3 work perfectly in wine. I have since removed wine so that I only run 64-bit. One of these days I might test them from VirtualBox (you would need Windows license for this though.) Quote
