JD_Zen Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Really? There are others? What other non-opening doors am i missing? (early part of the game anyway) Is it not until TR3 or Chronicles where they create door textures that don't include game-play doors? --Guy Croft Manor. Filled with non-oppening doors. The textures help to identify the doors that open and the ones that don't in all games from 1 to Chronicles, all of them. If the door "pops out" of the scenario, they are openable. One trick is to run towards the closed door. If you continue to run, it is openable. If you stop, just like when you go towards a wall, it's just the design, it can't be opened. So far (Wreck of the Maria Doria) there aren't any more doors that don't open, except the one in Venice, but if I found any, I'll tell you about it. But I don't remeber any. I know it's frustrating, but, if you find all secrets, and you can complete the level, and there is still an unopened door, don't worry about it, just ignore it. Edited July 23, 2010 by JD_Zen Quote
Eldin Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Hi again guys,I just finish Ice Palace and here is something that could be interesting This is why this level calls Ice Palace, well I think so. See that guys, that is why we went trough all those levels, just to find one knob,oh God And this is boss in this level and you guys can kill him from here, where he can't hurt Lara My results: Edited July 23, 2010 by EldinSuper Quote
CaityFM Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) @helion555 that's a smart idea, but I'm a playstation user. @rosinna exactly, those are teenage mutant ninja rats!!! and that carpet looks like barf Just finished Offshore Rig! OBS: 1: I now understand how so many places are mysteriously abandoned...lara visited. 2: I always get nervous while swimming through long tunnels, like "is this thing gonna end?!" 3: I think that was actually one of the easiest levels, I really enjoyed it! That's pretty much it! Oh and I really enjoyed killing the scuba divers, for some reason. @stella I would STILL be in venice without your walkthrough. PICTURES: I dont get the secrets fading into the background (PS how do I resize stuff I have to make it smaller through myspace but can I do it on here?) *later in editing (around 11:30pm)* Well I went to a fabulous 3 dog night concert with da mum 'n' dad. the opening act was more my style though, (tyler bryant.) Though I was eager to get home and read some more posts. the 3 dog night guy sang pants on the ground. 'twas epic. so...fo shizzle, yeah man, I was wiggin' out. Edited July 24, 2010 by CaityFM Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Water water water... I LOVE water I found myself in the middle of the ocean with a shark surrounding me. Great situation for Lara of course About 40 fathoms, hum, a small level compared to the previous ones, which gives the game a big loaf of fresh air, since the previous levels were very dense and complex. This one was easy, just swimming through some tunnels, and a speedrun puzzle. What I found pretty frustrating is the rubble part in the end, because I don't know were to go. I was a bit lost, but found my way quickly. There's a shark coming Leap of faith: Two Laras???!!! such a dream And now enemy twins Lots of rock No medipacks, since there are not much enemies and only the shark can be dangerous. Quick time, for a small, refreshing level Quote
Mute2Conversations Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 @Helion555 and CaityFM, glad you enjoy the posts. I enjoy yours as well! @Rosinna--the rats are hard to kill for the same reason the spiders are. You see, I have this theory that every creature in TR2--human and animal--would fail a urinalysis. They are on steroids. Of course, I have heard that creatures in other countries are bigger and tougher than their North American counterparts. I know some of my Spanish neighbors sometimes grill their chicken on the barbeque. I was a little suspicious of them at first. That meat seemed too big and didn't look anything like chicken to me. I swear, it looked like something from the Flintstones. Then I saw the birds...and I now believe there is a good possibility that birds did evolve from dinosaurs. As for the carpet in the Opera House...well, I have one explanation. In my neighborhood, everybody looks forward to large trash pick-up. The night before, everybody sneaks around and looks through somebody else's junk. Why they sneak when everybody does it, I don't know. Anyway, many of my neighbors decorate their house with someone else's junk. Probably that is how the opera got the 80's carpet. You know, one man's garbage is another person's treasure. I completed 40 Fathoms today. It was difficult. I probably wasn't in the right frame of mind. I was totally p***ed off! You know how it is. Somebody annoys you, and you spend the rest of the day thinking about how you want to run them over with your car...several times. Okay, now that I've creeped all of you out--I'll talk about my observations about this level. (For the record, I got into a much happier frame of mind reading your guys post--so thank you...and the person that ticked me off today thanks you too--because I didn't ruin his shirt with Mitsubishi Mirage tire marks). Okay...40 Fathoms. Actually, I wish I had played this in a better frame of mind. I may have enjoyed it more. This level satisfied the desire I've always had to explore a sunken ship--even though I totally suck with maneuvering Lara in water and I died a lot. The heartbeat was creepy. @JD_Zen--you are right, harpoons work very well against sharks. I took care of the first two with the harpoon gun, and I'm glad I bothered to pick them up in the earlier level. It is good that they work against sharks, because I don't think tampons would in this case. I got totally confused with the first shotgun goon I encountered. He seemed to disappear, and I thought I heard him pacing in the room. Then I found him dead, and I realized the footsteps were actually dripping water. Bodies disappeared in this level for me--did that happen with anyone else? It got confusing. I thought I killed the barracuda or the thug, and then they showed up. But other times I killed them and they disappeared. It made finding items difficult. I'm doing better with timed runs . However, I avoided the barracudas and shark when I got the Jade Dragon, but then the barracudas depleted a lot of my health because I didn't realize they would follow me back inside. Dummy me! Lara was getting verbally abused during the attempt to get the last secret. Nobody would guess that this nice little white girl could have such a filthy mouth! They would probably say that video games have warped my little mind ...but the truth is, MY MIND WAS WARPED TO BEGIN WITH!!! (HA-HA-HA--Evil laugh continued) In the dirt pile areas--I think they recycled some Kazakhstan music. And that was a fabulous crash when you pulled the switch! I found it hard to climb up the dirt pile you climb to get to the opening in the ceiling. The best way, I thought, was to climb the rocks to the right...then do a running jump to a flattish ledge mid-way that was to the left. So, the Maria Doria is next for me. Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Hi everyone! I started my gaming soon today and just cleaned the Wreck of the Maria Doria You either hate or love this level. I love it ^^ I found it very challenging, with the circuit breakers, the mind-blowing puzzles, lots of enemies and what appreciate the most, lots of underwater exploration with sharks and barracudas behind you! I died a lot, I've gotta say because shark are deadly and the tampons weapon doesn't work. They EAT the tampons Beautiful and more twins These jumps make me smile xD He's waiting for you Come out come out wherever you areee Small amounts of packs, just dunno how and a good time compared to my previous gameplays HAPPY RAIDING Quote
AmberNamber Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Hello Raiders! I haven't played in a couple of days. =/ I've been constantly working. The Wreck of The Maria Doria made me so mad. I died on jumping or falling on those stupid glass shards like five times! I'm still on the Living Quarters but hopefully I'll play soon. :] Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 @AmberNamber: yes, those shards and things are very very frustrating. Just keep your cool down Well, here to report on Living Quarters and The Deck. Pretty long puzzly nerve-wrecking levels. With lots of underwater gameplay, you took lots of time just to go through the whole ship and to find only one tiny piece of artifact. It makes us mad Still, that's what makes a Tomb Raider thing: do a lot for little reward. You can't see very well, but that black barracuda SCARES THE HELL out of me The theater (really fancy ship) Long but steady level. Final results: Typical Lara stariway: Beneath the darkness: Fire twins: Lots of ammo needed (and time, but mostly patience) The water is now ice as I proceed to Tibet. Happy raiding Quote
reborn1995 Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Just curious--i remember several years ago that i was able to find TRGold available for download somewhere online. Is that still the case? --guy Quote

Stellalune Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 Just curious--i remember several years ago that i was able to find TRGold available for download somewhere online. Is that still the case? --guy Hi, Guy! It's great to see you here. I have the TR1 and 2 Gold levels on my site here and here. (Not the whole game, just the bonus levels, though. You'll need the TR1/2 CD to play.) The TR1 bonus levels are also included in Chris Ware's TR1 installer for Windows XP, Vista & 7. Everybody seems to be making such great progress. Loving all the screenshots! I'm still messing around with my level 1 and 2 walkthroughs. The sunken ship levels totally give me claustrophobia, so I'm not in any hurry to get there. I'll try and make some progress today, though, and report back later. Raid on! Quote
rosinna Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) Hello!! So yesterday I finished the Opera house!! Yay!! Here's the stats: http://twitpic.com/280b4o That's like double the time of the previous levels. Oh well. Anyways I'm glad I'm done with it. I was really tired of the carpet by the time it was over. Haha. So I think my favorite part was the last little jumpy place with the swinging boxes. Right before the end of the level. I like jumping around and that was fun. I did jump down too early and had to go back to get the switch but that's ok. Side Note: Ok this is about the end, right before the little video, and the video. First of all, Natla looks very scary on the side of her jet. She should sue the person who drew her on that plane. It looks nothing like her. It's like when they try to make a Barbie doll of a person. It NEVER looks like the person. Second, in the video when you see the pilot people talking. Did anyone else notice that their head kind of comes detached from their neck when they turn their heads? And lastly. Lara would not just let that dude hit her up side the head with a wrench. It's the same thing I was thinking in Underworld when those people came into the tomb where the first gauntlet was and knocked her out. It wouldn't happen. She's Lara freakin' Croft! @Mute2Conversations Thank you for your insight. I do think the rats and spiders are on steroids! Jeez! And I think you're probably right about the carpet too. Why that carpet would be anyones treasure beats me but whatever tickles your peach. @CaityFM Teenage Mutant Ninja Rats!! Yeah!! I'll have to start using that term And the carpet does kinda look like puke now that you mention it. Now I am off to start playing some more!! See ya' later or tomorrow. P.S. I let you know as soon as I'm able to put that video up. Edited July 24, 2010 by rosinna Quote
Shrensh Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 I'm done with The Deck, and managed to find all the secrets I've really enjoyed these underwater levels, but I'm looking forward to moving on to Tibet, and I'm especially looking forward to driving that snowmobile My stats: Two stupid divers. Grrr Ha ha ha, this is what you get for messing with Lara Croft! This stupid shark was just sitting in the underwater hole I needed to swim through and wouldn't move out of the way... ... and when I tried to shoot it with the harpoon gun, its annoying friend sneaked up behind me and chewed me up Eat grenade, stupid flame-thrower guy! Quote
CaityFM Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) ALRIGHT! Diving Area is finished! My best friend was over, she was cracking up at the graphics. OBS: 1) I just HAD to jump into the toxic waste..no questions asked. 2) That ladder made me tired just looking at it. 3) Once I got to the top of that amazing ladder I had to jump off it and hear Lara scream. 4) Lara, Thugs, Dogs, Inanimate objects, they all got told off. (sp?) 5) Lara got killed on a slope, and floated! 6) the water looked green...E-COLI!!! 7) I absolutely had to see if the saw would kill me...it did. so I got cut in half about 5 times until I was satisfied. 8) I LOATHE SCUBA DIVERS WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING. 9) I hate flamethrower guys with a burning passion. ( ) 10) I felt sorry for that poor monk until he started watching lara put her wetsuit on, then I felt like screaming "CREEP!" and shooting him. http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss198/cbtiger14/?action=view¤t=100_1339.mp4 (video) FLOATING STIFF! ..woah..*must..resist..stupidity impulse..must..jump* I hate these guys. reborn1995 Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 argh! i hate 40 fathoms. one of my very least favorite levels in all of TR-dom. i quit in the middle because it's late. can't find the lever to open a trap door three decks above me right after i killed the first baracuda. guess i'll have to check the walk-through later. Isn't that really huge eel coming up pretty soon? i like the eel. --guy Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 WHY ARE SNOW LEVELS SO HARD??? All snow levels from all TRs are so hard: Tibet in TR2, Antartica in TR3, Base in TR5 (I'll explain further), Kazakhstan and Nepal in TRL and Jan Mayen in TRU, all so hard hard hard hard. I'll explain why I think (or at least thought) the Base levels in TR5 are so hard: when I was 6 or 7 years old, I was playing TR5 for the first time. Once I reached the part where Lara, after going through some vents in the submarine, arrives to a kitchen, and there is a cook there (she hasn't got guns). I just couldn't figure what was I supposed to do. At the time, I didn't have internet so I didn't know about Stella's walkthroughs, or else it would be easy. I tried and tried and tried so many times... Every afternoon after school, I arrived at home and played like crazy. As I am truly obssessed with TR, I just coudn't stop. So, one lazy afternoon I just thought "Let's see Lara going down the runway" and I started to walk through the kitchen. Then, as I saw the cook didn't spot me, I was just like "Ahah, I'm going to make fun of you", so I just started walking around behind him. Then I thought "Well, maybe, as he didn't spot me, I can do something with the pots and pans" so I pressed like crazy the action button. Suddenly, the inventory opened, and the crowbar was selected and I was amazed! Then "BAM" to the cook. I was so much excited that I ran to my neighbour just to tell him about that. And THAT'S why the levels are so hard. Well, Tibetian Foothills and Barkang Monastry were truly difficult. I had a hard time, died often, and those enemies were so strong I was mad at them. The beautiful sky: Well, this is a begginer jump: I told you it was a begginer jump Strange Lara death And my final results. I needed lots of packs, and I took some time since I used the snowmobiler. This hallway scared me Poor little monks: And the final results. God, it took lots of time and packs, even though I had the help of the monks. Now I intend to finish the game today. 6 more levels to come. HAPPY RAIDING Quote
Eldin Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) Temple of Xian is finish. This level was very hard and very interested,I made some sceenshots, but in this level I lost many of my medpacks. There it is Dagger of Xian I like this place where giant spiders are. Huge dragon statue. Sorry Lara, but Bartoli win this time.So what you waiting go there and kick his evil ass Results: I saw that you guys are in big progress, keep up with good work And one more thing I saw big medpack on one place in this level and I don't know why but I couldn't get there.Lara is near ladder that supposed to get me to the medpack, but she just won't grab it.Any suggestions guys Edited July 25, 2010 by EldinSuper Quote
Shrensh Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 And one more thing I saw big medpack on one place in this level and I don't know why but I couldn't get there.Lara is near ladder that supposed to get me to the medpack, but she just won't grab it.Any suggestions guys That could be the unreachable med pack. I believe that in Tomb Raiders 1, 2 & 3 there's one medpack that can't be reached, which Core put in the game because they're evil. Tho I think you can reach the one in TR1 by cheating a bit, if I remember correctly. Just finished the Tibetan Foothills. Got all the secrets I love driving the snowmobile around so much, though it took me a while to get used to it again. It's not the easiest thing to steer My stats: Smash! Ooh, I spy a snowmobile! Now to get over there... Stupid icicles I'm not very good at steering this thing... Ha ha ha ha ha, driving over baddies is fun! I wonder if I can make this jump... Oops, I guess not... Crunch! Snowball smash! A psychedelic wall tile... I love the floating snowmobile gag Some action shots: Snowmobile fight! Oh dear And a few videos too, just because I love the snowmobile so much I'm having lots of fun with the snowmobile, but I'm not sure that Lara is... The snowmobile can kill leopards just by touching them! (linked because I've exceeded the number of media files I'm allowed to attach) Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Oh Shrensh, you're videos and screens are just too funny I am happy. Just went through the Catacombs of the Talion, the Ice Palace and the Temple of Xian, and I'm about to begin the Floating Islands. As I am close to my vacation, I'm trying to finish the game today. The final two ice levels are pretty easy and straighy forward, but on what comes to enemies there are a lot. Yes, these are two of the most enemy filled levels. The Temple of Xian is very very long, it has lots of traps, but that's it. I smell a swim: What can be below?? Results. Quick level. Lots of enemies. I also want that golden thingy BAM SLAM Lara's dead The inside glows Small level. Not many packs needed. Used the harpoon gun to kill those fish and I was happy ^^ The post will continue down, since I have no more space for screens Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Oops, got you Déjà vu Another déjà vu GRRRARRR Beautiful temple Final results. Took me not too long compared to other gameplays and healing was almost unnecessary HAPPY RAIDING Quote
CaityFM Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) @shrensh LOL! those videos are awesome @JD_Zen awesome pics @EldinSuper try the corner bug 40 FATHOMS TODAY! *gulp* I've heard a lot about this..I started it yesterday but died very quickly. I was drowning while getting eaten by a shark. if that how I START a level, I'm in for a headache. wish me luck. (Also, before my observations, I must say that I'm leaving on vacation wednesday and I won't be back until sunday. I'm going to miss tomb raider for those 4 days..lol!) 40 FATHOMS OBS: 1)I began freaking out immediately. 2)I drowned several times, even with the walkthrough 3)It took me a little bit to realize goons were shooting me through a trap door, "ohhhh they're down theerreee!!" 4)Those barracudas kill me. literally. LOL. 5)Now, why there's fire (and oxygen) on a sunken ship that's clearly been there for a while, I'll never know. 6)This level just DOES NOT get any easier.. 7)I just couldn't do that timed run, so I gunned it through the fire. 8)Whenever I'd think "YAY! IM SAFE!!!" I'd get eaten or something. 9)I like the harpoon sound, *clink clink clink* 10)Why do the bad guys get unlimited harpoons?!? 11)That's the biggest wrench I've ever seen. 12)I actually am not done with this level, but I saved there at the very end where there's two dudes. my health bar is red..BAD FREAKIN' SAVE. 13)I. HATE. THIS. LEVEL. (HAHA!) Edited July 25, 2010 by CaityFM Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Hi and goodbye everyone! This is my last post until Thursday, since I am going for a much needed mini-vacation. I was able to complete the game, and I hope to start TR2 Gold soon, due to the fact that each summer I play all TR games. If you want it, I'll post screens and my opinion as usual. But for now, stay with the three final levels: Floating Islands, The Dragon's Lair and Home Sweet Home. Floating Islands: it is so refreshing to see so much green! I just think it is a color that completely suits the design. About the level, here you find for the first time the toughest enemies: the guardians (if they came back in guardian of light I would LOVE IT) . These are very difficult to kill. GRAR doors The most deadly traps ever (the blades) This is the most risky move Lara has ever made (of which she comes out alive) He caught dinner Results: this level has the record of most ammo used The Dragon's Lair: basically you just kill. And this time I had no problem in killing the dragon. Did it the first try. Marco Bartoli (a.k.a.: crazy italian) Just love the colour One hand uzi Nice glitch Results: (next post, need more space) Quote
JD_Zen Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Results: Home Sweet Home: the perfect name for a perfect epilogue. Basically, another only killing level I'm Lara Croft. This is my room. If you get in, you'll die. Theres an aerial entrance Final statistics: FINAL COMENTS ON GAME: Well, I always loved TR2. It's my favourite classic tomb raider game. And probably my favourite from all of them. One concept that I find very well adapted in the game is variety: there are many outfits (main, scuba, snow, gown), many guns (pistols, machine guns, harpoons, grenades)and many environments (venice, snow, wall of China, underwater). This makes the game not repetitive and indeed staggering. The music: it is great great great, all sound effects, every single piece of audio existing in the game fits perfectly every situation. The duration: in my 6th or 7th gameplay it took me 7.30h. Imagine on your first!. I believe it is a very very very good game, not perfect (it is impossible), but very very near perfect. OK, now, this is for Stella. When I was installing the game on my PC, I found some audio problems. Soon after some research, I found some links that would help me: the problem is that the music doesn't play (sound effects do) in some of the "sold out" versions of the game (which is mine). So, I searched through your site and didn't find anything. I also googled it and found some pretty good informations in a website. It envolved burning CD's and things like that. As I am not much of a techie, I got confuse and couldn't do anything. But, I was lucky enough to find a very very good audio fix in another website that was very very simple and effective. Also, the site contained both the "burning CD's" solution featured in the previous website and the easier one. Here is the link http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/traudio.html (the easy solution is featured in the bottom of the page, and is offered PaulD) Hope to help Loved to replay the game while sharing my opinions and screens with you. Thank you so much. Now, let's go to get tanned to the beach and I'll be back ready for another dose of the most beautiful, entertaining, defying, enjoyable, joyfull and completely outstanding game: TOMB RAIDER (PS: hope I don't get too behind if we're going to keep on playing ) Quote
rosinna Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) Hello!! So I had a somewhat productive day yesterday. I got to the part with the scuba divers in the Offshore Rig. So lets get on with it shall we? Well I loaded my game and it was right at the beginning of the level. So I was still knocked out on the floor. My dad called me to say hi since he wasn't coming over that day. He also told me that I didn't have my guns and that to get out I would have to do a timed door thing. And that I'd have to let the guys shoot at me a little to break the window behind me at some point. Great. I was more pissed off about the gun thing but the door was kinda a pain too. I tried to corner jump or roll through the door for a while but it didn't work (dang it!). Also, those bars that are holding her in this cell thing look plenty wide enough for Lara to jump through. So then I decided to actually go flip the switch and get through the door. It took a few tries but it ended up being really easy once I pushed the block as far as it could go to the wall. That way I could just run and then climb up on the other blocks and that worked really well. I'm not even sure if that made sense but whatever. So once I finally got out I ran like a mad women past the guys and screamed "GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!" profusely in real life. The cool thing is that I didn't have to have the dudes shoot at me to get through the window. I went up to the window and rolled so that way I was facing them but she rolled right through the window. So that was helpful. Took me a while to figure out how to get on top of the plane but I got it eventually. In the room where you have to switch the water between to two pools I had a blast killing Lara a few times in different ways. Jumping in the empty one, drowning her in the full one when I got over there. Good times, good times. That's something that I like about the new games. In the water you can turn the camera so you can see her face and then watch her face as she spazzes out and drowns. Is that only me or do the rest of you have a morbid sense of humor? Later my mom was sitting next to me and watching me play and was asking what was fun about this game and I'm like "Uh, everything!!!!" She said she didn't get it and I about strangled her but whatever. Haha. We were having fun goofing off and pausing it in weird places like this. http://twitpic.com/28cwhw Isn't that an attractive pose? Haha. Now I'm off to play more!! Be back later!
