Hi members need a Question answered . does anybody own a PS3 and have you tried to play PS1&2 games on it and what success have you had

I do have a PS3 and I can play PS2/PS games on there, however I only think this option is available on the 60gb version of the PS3 that they are no longer producing so you'd have to grab one of those for it to be backwards compatible.

So the 80gig not backwards compatible bugger, what about these emulators you can download from their site to run them

I purchased one of the first 80 gig models last year when it was being packaged with Motorstorm and it is partially backwards compatible only with certain games. However, the latest 80 gig model is not backward compatible.

The 60gb was only partially backwards compatible for me when I bought it initially, but after the updates, every PS2 game I've tried works.

However, I did just find this information: "A HMV staffer told us that, although he had been given no confirmed release date by the retailer, he expects the 80GB console will "very likely" hit the UK soon, especially considering the 40GB PS3's inability to play PS2 games. The 80GB model in the US does include the functionally to play PS2 games."

Just to clarify Re: the 80gig PS3:

The NEW 80GB PS3's do not have PS2 backwards compatibility, they only have 2 USB ports, and they don't have a memory card slot.

The OLD 80GB PS3's (such as the one in the MGS4 bundle and the prior Motorstorm bundle) have software PS2 backwards compatibilty (70% - 80%), 4 USB ports, and a memory card slot.

I'm sorry but I don't have specific SKUs on the respective 80gig PS3s noted above.

I have a 60GB PS3, I do play PS1 & PS2 games on it at times, it gets them perfectly. I only had to create an "Internal Memory Card" to save the games on my PS3, and I had some of my favorite PS2 games saved on a PS2 memory card, so I just bought the Memory Card Adapter and transfer my saved games, to the PS3.

Am I the only person here that got a crappy 40 gig?

It can't play any of the older games as far as I know... I still love it though.
