Eidos has laid off 30 Crystal Dynamics employees in response to the average figures produced by TR:U (since when is 1.5 million dollars a week average?) in an attempt to save money. As we know, Eidos has been having financial trouble since before Underworld was even announced, and now it seems to be reaching a critical point. SCi is assumed to go under soon, which would bring down Eidos. if Eidos goes down, CrystalD will take a critical monotary hit if they themselves aren't brought down.

At the beggining of last month, both EA and Ubisoft expressed interest in buying out Eidos if they collapse. This would mean that either EA or Ubisoft (I personally would like Ubi) would now oversee the franchise and fund CrystalDynamics.

However, just yesterday, Time Werner, owners of Werner Brothers have also expressed interest in buying the ailing company:

Now, a little about each party:

EA:

-Has made The Sims franchise, a very well known and massively successful franchise. Could they re-establish Tomb Raider to where it becomes as recognizable as The Sims?

-They also make Madden games for the consoles. These are also hugely successful.

-Overall, they are a richer company.

-However, EA has caught bad publicity in the past for rushing out games (hence why there are a bajillion Sims expansion packs), so I personally don't see much of a change in tactics between Eidos and EA.

Ubisoft

-Has made the new Prince of Persia games and Assasin's Creed. Both are very, very successful and are fan favorites.

-Ubisoft seem to have a more relaxed approach to game building, they don't insist on pumping out games as fast as possible like both EA and Eidos.

-Ubisoft also seems to have a decent ammount of cash on them, they're definately not shy on aggresively promoting their titles.

-They already have rudimentary experience making Tomb Raider, they released Tomb Raider: The Prophecy for the Gameboy Advance, which recieved "okay" reviews from most gaming sites.

Time Werner/Werner Bros

-Clearly has the most money out of the previous three.

-WB also is the most recognizable company to the general public. They make movies, (had) a TV channel, and Time Werner owns a large section of cable and internet business.

-They make mainly movie tie-in games that usually get luke-warm reviews

-However, they make the F.E.A.R franchise, which has gotten good reviews.

-The acquisition of Eidos would give WB an easier time making a third TR movie, which may be one of the major reasons why they want to control the series. Again, they have obvious dollar signs in their eyes.

Actually I think the delay on the PS2 version is what bit them. I think they wanted people to buy everything

twice or three times in different formats. Anyone at Eidos see what going on in the real world lol.

A lot of people have PS2 and no money to buy high tech pc's PS3's and XBox 360's and Wii's the PS2 might

have been the best seller.

So basically, Lara's going to change her history for the, count them: first, second, THIRD time!

This is getting kinda crazy.

But as long as they don't completely assassinate Lara's basic character, I'm fine with another reboot. Maybe this one will be closer to Core's Lara.

But now I'm wondering if the Legend trilogy actually happened, since CrystalD said that the "first" continuity of TR games between TR1-TR6 were "only rumors never verified by Lara herself" (this is taken from the "about Lara" section in Legend's strategy guide) Will they say the same for the "second (legend)" continuity?

*sigh* Such a turbulent new year for Tomb Raider....

It doesn't necessarily mean they're completely disregarding CrystalDs TR story, just that they're going to revamp Lara Croft herself, like how James Bond became less 'style' and more 'grit', so they'll probably change some of the Tomb Raider esque qualities, like improving combat so that Lara can hide behind walls, disarm enemies, etc, etc...make her more real.

Since the 'Legend trilogy' has ended, though, it doesn't matter where they go from here to me. They don't have to reference it at all because as far as I'm concerned, it's finished. I don't require any answers, and to be honest, I'd be more interested in a new plot not involving her mother, Natla, Amanda, etc.
