Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, has been discovered by Columbia studios, and now a movie adaptation has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Kyle Ward, the same man responsible for writing the screenplay for the Kane & Lynch and upcoming Hitman 2 adaptions, is set to do the same for Uncharted. The movie will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad, and Alex Gartner.Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was one Sony's first exclusive titles to be met with critical acclaim, selling 1 million copies in its first 10 weeks back in 2007. The game unfolds like any blockbuster action adventure movie should, complete with cheesy dialogue, explosive firefights, and a plot that keeps things entertaining.As a game, Uncharted's scope and intense action was a formidable undertaking that fit the video game medium perfectly. To see a movie studio planning to translate the huge, lush, green jungles and ancient ruins of the game onto the big screen is truly ambitious. However, if done correctly Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has potential to be as entertaining as similar adventure films such as King Kong or Indiana Jones.Here's to hoping the movie adaptation of Uncharted takes shape into a film that is not only good for being based on a video game, but good on its own merit. However, Columbia has an uphill battle. As Nathan Drake would say, finding a good video game movie "is like trying to find a bride in a brothel."

I loved the game and can't wait for 'Among Thieves' to come out!

It does have a LOT of potential and if they get it right I will be a very happy bunny!

Nathan Fillion I think would be great for the role of Drake. His tongue-in-cheek portrayal of Mal in the unfortunately now defunct TV series Firefly and its move tie-in Serenity (both of which I highly recommend you watch, shameless plug ) neatly fits Drake's character in more ways than none.

You're definitely right, there, jedicri! I just finished watching the whole series of Firefly on DVD (borrowed from the library, a shameless plug of mine). We got to see all the episodes we missed when it was on. He's hilarious and even looks the part for Drake, as the character Mal.

Yeah, viewing the pic that Morph posted and comparing it to the pic in the first post, Nathan certainly looks the part of Drake.

And oh, if you haven't already, do watch Serenity if you haven't already as it wraps up the mystery surrounding River and her ties with the Alliance.

Lol @ that pic in the article you posted a link to, jedicri. I mentioned it to my son (who just beat it again for like the 5th time today), and he said it was funny that they both have the same name.

I still have no idea of who would be best for Elena, or the other characters. Although watching it again today while he was playing, I was wondering about it.

As far as Serenity goes, I actually saw the movie before watching more than bits & pieces of episodes of the series. So watching the series afterwards was sort of like George Lucas doing 3 prequels to the storyline I already knew. Don't know of another way to explain it.

Back OT: Some ideas for Elena tossed around at my house:

Jessica Alba (not quite tom-boyish enough in my opinion)

Jennifer Gardner (if she'd be willing to shorten/dye her hair)

AJ (because they were picking on me, lol...but I don't think she fits the part)

Mark Wahlberg to star in film adaptation and is to be directed by David O. Russell (who had peviously worked with the former on Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, and the upcoming The Fighter).

I just heard about this, and I gotta say, I'm really disappointed. Mark Wahlberg wasn't really that great in Max Payne, and the only sort of comedic role I've seen him in as of late was The Other Guys...in which, he barely got a laugh from me, apart from "IT'S A BAD TIME BOB!"...that got a laugh, lol. But, yeah, I wanted Nathan Fillion.

Why would they choose Mark for this part? He's nothing like the character, not his mannerisms, acting style, comedy style or anything. Not that he's not good for other parts, I loved how he did lots of serious movies. But I'm all for Nathan for the part...maybe it's a case of once you see a certain actor for a part, no one else looks right for it? Or maybe the sarcasm throughout the games reminds me too much of Firefly & Castle.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be Nathan Fillion as well. Oh well.....

Well, I won't say I won't see it, because no doubt I will, but, I am already feeling the need to add this to the list of games ruined by their movie adaptations.

Why David O. Russell felt the need to add from the source, I will never know. Adding Drake's family...one that in the game has never been mentioned...in my opinion, is ridiculous. When will they learn that it isn't always about what they want to write, but what the fans - the people that have followed and loved these games - want to see. Oh well, I'll try look on the bright side...it can't possibly be worse than anything Uwe Boll makes.

Yeah, I agree with you Morph. Leave it as it should be and keep the main characters. Perhaps if a sequel were to follow but I'm putting the cart before the horse.

Firefly & Castle is an entertaining TV series btw.

Russell was attached to direct the adaptation of Uncharted, the hit video game series and upcoming comic book series from DC, fans were disappointed to learn that it would be Mark Wahlberg who would likely fill the shoes of Nathan Drake. Nathan Fillion has been a fan favourite since the beginning, and following the news that Neil Burger had taken over the project and would be starting from scratch, the buzz surrounding the Castle star has begun anew. Well, here's what he had to say on the matter when talking to Screen Rant this weekend.

"I am certainly still interested in playing Nathan Drake. I think every actor I know wants their action-adventure hero, their Indiana Jones. That would be a good one for me, I think. What I don’t want is people pressuring that poor man [director Neil Burger] and souring him on the actual idea. If we could somehow just… do you remember the movie Inception? I think that’s what we need to do. We need to let him land on the idea on his own."
