I've forgotten to add that those who have played and completed the first game can import their character class, stats, skills, experiences, level reached into Mass Effect 2 since it is a direct sequel that picks up where Mass Effect left off.

I have to correct myself here: you can only import your character from the first game along with the decisions, actions that you made, which will have repercussions in Mass Effect 2 and the up-coming and final to the trilogy, Mass Effect 3.

Coming to PS3 this month:

AUS: January 20th

UK: January 21st

US: January 18th

Comes with all download content.

FYI

Not much in the way of details atm but there will be one final DLC coming soon before Mass Effect 3.

The fourth pack of downloadable content is coming out for Mass Effect 2, and will hit all platforms - PS3, Xbox 360, and PC - on the same day. That day is March 29.

The DLC is titled Arrival, and it's the first story-based expansion of the game since it went cross-platform on the PS3 earlier this year. BioWare describes the new adventure on its website. According to the official description, "A deep cover agent is missing in Batarian space, after reporting evidence of an imminent Reaper invasion. Shepard must travel to the edge of the galaxy, rescue the agent, and discover the truth behind the Arrival. Uncover new research and 3 new achievements in this spectacular new adventure for Mass Effect 2."

Following the release of Kasumi - Stolen Memory, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival marks the fourth major piece of DLC released for the Xbox 360 and PC. The new content will cost $6.99, or 560 Microsoft/BioWare Points.
