I'm trying to get to Eye of the Serpent, running on Linux.

So I rappel down the wall, swing over to the next wall, edge over, then rappel down to the island. Easy enough. It's the next bit that I'm having trouble with.

I run to the edge, jump, hurl the grapple, and one of two things happens, neither of which are good:

- The grapple goes straight up, falls down again, and Lara goes into the water. OR

- The grapple hits the correct loop, Lara swings under it, then, whether I hit 'space', 'c' or nothing, Lara falls into the water a couple of feet short of the landing. I can't seem to get her on the landing.

I don't seem to be able to reliably get that second option, which I assume is mostly correct. Still, even that's not right. I'm clearly missing something, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

 

Hi. I'm thinking it's a bug, but unfortunately I don't have a ready solution. There's a thread on Reddit where someone discusses running into a similar problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/TombRaider/comments/9q4079/stuck_on_the_eye_of_the_serpent_details_in/. A few people offered suggestions, such as reloading an earlier save in order to 'rebuild' that area as you enter it, and making sure to jump rather than drop off the grapple once it finally connects. Not sure if any of those helped though. The OP didn't follow up. I don't know if they found a solution or if they're still on Reddit, but I just posted there in case they might see it.

Thanks. I’ll try that. I spent yesterday and today playing it on Windows, just in case it was a bug in the Linux version, and I’ve just got to the same point. Sadly, it does the same thing.

Ok, I think I understand what’s happening now.

I used your (Stella’s) save file at the beginning of the Cenote level, playing on Windows, and continued with that. Got to the point where I needed to talk to Estli (which would have committed me to finishing the game). Did several side missions along the way, and, while doing one of them (Path of Fear), I discovered that, when jumping, holding the space bar for a second or two causes Lara to jump further than if you just tap it. (Not sure whether a controller would do the same; I do have one, but I’m not organized enough to remember where I put it).

That made me think of the Eye of the Serpent problem. So, I went back to it on Linux, and got through on the second try. Seems there are two jumps that you need to do, holding the space bar down for a second or so each time:

- The initial jump off the rock, towards the grapples

- Another jump when you’ve swung almost all the way to the other side.

I think I’ll continue on from there.

Yes, holding Jump does lengthen the distance a bit, both on keyboard and controller. I tend to forget that since it's become kind of second-nature to me at this point. Sorry I didn't think of it to start, but I'm glad it worked out. I will try to remember to add a note to that section of the walkthrough.
