TLJ is one of the best games I ever played! But sadly, I heard that for many Dreamfall was a disappointment... They said that it ruined the idea of LJ for them. So, I'm wondering, can someone tell me the bad parts of it without too many spoilers?

Personally speaking, Dreamfall, in and of itself, has no bad parts save for those parts where you can choose to fight or not; the fighting aspect was useless to start with. When comparing Dreamfall to TLJ, the former game falls terribly short in breadth and scope --- this is a no brainer. There weren't many puzzles to deal with unlike the first; Dreamfall plays more like an interactive game or movie, not the traditional point-and-click adventure game. If you've played Fahrenheit (European title; North American title is Indigo Prophecy), it is somewhat similar to this. Dreamfall is a much shorter game; on average, 15 hours of gameplay.

There is still a wonderful story to be found in Dreamfall and it can be quite emotional at times, particularly near the end of the game. Looking forward to Dreamfall, I came fully prepared with the realization that in no way was this game going to top TLJ and as such, my expectations were not high and as a consequence, I was not disappointed with the game overall. I would have liked to have invested more gametime to be sure and more puzzles to tackle therein but Ragnar Tornquist made it quite clear in his blogs that he wanted to try something different in his approach during the early stages of Dreamfall's development.

Give Dreamfall a shot. Forget all the preconceived notions (I assume --- please correct if I'm wrong) you may have of TLJ and simply accept what Dreamfall has to offer. You might enjoy it for the sake of the game itself.

Playing 2 adventure games is a chore in itself! I tried it once --- no dice, lol.

I also played the first Rogue Squadron game a ways back (pc version).

As for your liking some fighting/shooting mixed in with a good storyline, I'm assuming you've played some games in the Jedi Knight series? (such as the one my avatar presents )

jedicri pretty much summed up what I'd say about TLJ compared to Dreamfall. The nice thing about Dreamfall is the updated graphics, plus some of the fighting is fun for me. I enjoyed some of Zoe's humor, too. The downfall is that it goes much quicker than TLJ, and so far doesn't seem to wrap me up into the storyline as much as TLJ did. I also have more respect for April than Zoe, just a personality thing. They're both strong characters that you see evolving from self-centered young people into women that care about how the plots and conspiracies going on affect the world around them. I'd still recommend Dreamfall for you. You can get it fairly cheap now, and you'll still enjoy seeing the additions to TLJ's storyline, and what's happened to some of the characters from TLJ at this point in their lives.

Guess I just expected him to run away like the other trolls, and I was in shock when he didn't.

I've only tried one of the Jedi Knight games myself. My husband was very into Jedi Outcast (I think that's what is was called), which I tried a couple of times. He disappeared for days, lol. Other than that, as far as SW games on the PC are concerned, I've only played Phantom Menace, which I didn't finish -- my video card at the time was crummy and some of the graphics showed up as blocks. Then I never got back to it. I'm not a huge finisher of games on the PC -- sorry to admit. I have to really like it to get all the way through it. Plus, if I find that I'm using a walkthrough too much, I get frustrated. The only game I've finished on the PC is TLJ. I used to just use the PC mainly for puzzle games, but Nintendo systems & PS for all kinds of games. I'm just now getting interested in PC gaming, since I don't have to share my time with everyone else in the family, like I do with the consoles. It also helps that I have a better video card & more RAM to play with all options enabled.

So AJ=TR, have you finished Dreamfall yet? I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the events that transpired on the latter end of the game. I personally never saw that coming. Vey surprising indeed!

Sorry to say, I've had no gaming time for at least 2 weeks. I'm still at the ugly troll bit. I'll let you know when I get further along in the game.

Sorry to revive a thread this old! (Can't believe it's been a year!)

Just downloaded both TLJ and Dreamfall from Steam. Played the introduction of TLJ and so far.....love it!

I know other people were giving you advice on what other games to play, and now that a year has gone and I assume you've had your mix of Adventure games, AJ, there's a game that actually got me into point and click adventures.

The Broken Sword series. They're awesome, granted I didn't like the latest one "The Angel of Death" the first 3 are awesome, especially the first. It's mostly narrative, but the puzzles are head scratchers, when I played it for the first time when I was like....14 I think, it took me 2 and a half months to get past a puzzle. Play the first one, as it really gets you into the adventure, and you'll grow an attachment to George straight away.

Anyhow, I'm going back to TLJ, it's awesome!!

Lol, Ms. C...doesn't seem like a year since I posted here, either! I loved TLJ...Dreamfall was better for graphics, of course, but the storyline in TLJ was more involved. I did finally finish it, thought I posted that in this thread but maybe it was the now playing thread. I'm dying for them to continue the storyline, although it's supposed to be in chapter installments through steam. Np, since I got a steam account for Half-Life 2.

I'll look into Broken Sword when I get a chance -- thanks for the recommendation! I just got Ages of Empires for Mother's Day, so I'll be working on that for a bit.

So far--I love it!

I've just finished the chapter 'Monsters'. That was one interesting chapter, especially with the lovely old poor woman.

This is all becoming very interesting now, and I find myself sucked into the story....can't wait to find out what happens next!!

Glad you're enjoying it. It's one of the few games I wouldn't mind playing again, besides TR, of course.

Finished both TLJ and Dreamfall--I loved 'em both. Found the fighting sections in Dreamfall a bit random and unnecessary, but still an enjoyable game none-the-less, plus the twist at the end was rather unexpected...hope the next game comes out soon.

I'm glad you liked them, Ms. C! I agree on the fighting scenes being out of place, although I did like the training sessions of Tai Chi in the beginning. The end was amazing, and kept me wanting more! I hope they come out with the chapters they were supposed to release on Steam soon.
