On Stella's walkthrough there is written an alternate way to defeat the centaurs. Which basically includes targeting one the diving into the water and swimming into tunnel with switch and waiting for one to die. Then supposedly you just repeat the process for the second centaur. I have been trying this tactic for about a week now and cannot get the second centaur to die. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. After the first one dies, I go back to the surface, target the second then return to the tunnel and switch. The second one just won't die like it's suppose to, it will hurl fireballs for a while then stops and keeps running around. His health meter doesn't go down at all.

I have tried returning to the surface and using the shield of the first centaur to defeat the second too, but I can't get Lara to grapple the shield so she can pick it up. The shield just kind of hangs in mid-air and the grapple goes straight through.

Has anyone else tried this method of defeating the centaurs and have it work?? What am I doing wrong??

I play on the PS2, by the way forgot to mention that earlier, LOL.

If the shield of the first centaur is lying on the floor, you don't need to grapple it. Just get Lara to stand on it and press "interact" and she'll pick it up. If it's hanging in mid-air and Lara won't pick it up, that sounds like a bug...

For the adrenaline dodge, make sure that you maintain Lara's weapons lock on the centaur at all times. If she's not pointing her guns at the centaur when it charges, the dodge won't work. Hold the combat key and run to the side while shooting the centaur. When it gets enraged, stop shooting but continue to run to the side and keep pressing the combat key so Lara keeps her guns pointed at the centaur. You should see two targets appear and merge on the centaur's head (and turn red). When that happens, press crouch and fire (while still holding the combat key and moving sideways). Be careful not to fire too early, or the move won't work.

I havent been able to get it to work either on the first time I tried the alternitive method the first centarus' health bar only went down half of the way and I tried restarting from the last check point in the tunnel and I decided to swim to the surface to fight them the way you are supposed to but it didnt work right! LOL

Thanks for replying. I'm off to try the adrenaline dodge once again, LOL. Hopefully I can get it right. I really miss the skip levels that were available in the older games. They really came in handy in times like this

Try to remember to "duck" when they are using green ray, and when you see the Centaur "rage, press Circle & a direction, wait for recticles to meet each other & immediately press R1 to shoot.......i know, it sounds easy in print, LOL

Once you have a shield & use it to freeze a centaur, quickly change to more powerful weapon & fire away, but remember to change back after Centaur unfreezes &/or dies.

I am using the PC version, and I'll admit that I have slow reflexes. By the time I realize that I can do the bullet time move, I have been run over by the centaur. Still I am confused on how to do it( on PC ). Is it direction key ( arrow ) and then shift? Or shift then direction key? Is there a setting to have her do it automatically, that would help us slow geezers out quite a bit. I haven't had trouble with the game until this part.

It's the direction key then shift. Keep the direction key pressed all the time, it makes it easier. Also, make sure that Lara maintains a weapons lock on the target at all times, even if she's not shooting at it (holding the combat key [which is right-click by default, if I remember correctly] down will do that). Once the enemy has begun its charge, stop shooting, but make sure that Lara keeps pointing her guns at it, while still continuing to move sideways. Only once the targets have appeared and turned red should you press shift and fire.

I'm another one who had horrific problems with this move. I was ready to tear all my hair out until I realised that the sole cause of all my problems was that I wasn't holding the combat key down

I'm afraid I got so frustrated with this I got my son to kill 'em for me. It took him a few tries but he said once he'd sussed it it was quite easy I still can't do it

Well, so far I still haven't gotten pass the dang centaurs. It is truly frustrating, I've never had this much trouble before. I'm still trying but I'm getting weary of trying. I was hoping I'd have this game finished before my baby came and didn't have time to play anymore, but looks like I may have to put the game on the shelf for a while and come back to it when I can. I'm playing every chance I get now, so maybe with a little luck I'll at least get pass this part before my due date, LOL.
