LOL never heard about that before, but i beleave that when you do have a tv with HD and whatever the image will look better and everything. btw where did you heard this info anyways?

A video game console, it could be an old Sega Genesis or the newer Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 will cause damage to projection TVs, both the old kind and the new HD TVs with built-in rear or front projection (nowadays knows as DLP).

We always recommend to our customers if they have kids who are likely going to use the TV to play video games for a long long period of time, to not buy any TVs that have the projection and stick with one that has an actual picture tube (CRT, LCD, Plasma, LCoS).

I think that you could only get damage if you leave it paused for long periods of time. not through gameplay

Yeah, to expand on what j7 and Fusion said, you don't have to worry about the tube "breaking off", but with rear projection TVs you may get images "burned" into the screen. This could happen from leaving the game in pause for too long, or from images that stay permanently on the game screen during gameplay (such as a health bar).

From the Nintendo Gamecube precautions booklet:

CAUTION - Projection TV Use

DO NOT USE WITH FRONT OR REAR PROJECTION TV Do not use a front or rear projection television with your Nintendo system or games. Your projection television screen may be permanently damaged if video games with stationary scenes or patterns are played on your projection television. Similar damage may occur if you place a video game on hold or pause. If you use your projection television with any Nintendo system or games, neither Nintendo nor any of Nintendo's licensees will be liable for any damage. This situation is not caused by a defect in any of the above listed systems or games; other fixed or repetitive images may cause similar damage to a projection television. Please contact your TV manufacturer for further information.

It's not a problem with the PS3 though, and you don't need to worry about a normal old TV that's not a rear- or front projection TV.
