Ian Livingstone Appointed to BAFTA Video Games Committee

Ian Livingstone, Eidos' Produce Aquistion Director, has been appointed to the British Acedemy of Film and Television Arts newly formed Video Games committee.

The Academy is now committed to the development of the contemporary art form of video games, and to lending equal weight to its British Academy Video Games Awards as that given to film and television.

"The decision by BAFTA to make computer games its 'third arm' is overdue endorsement of a genre that has struggled for artistic recognition..... If recognition by BAFTA helps the industry to raise its game, then it will soon be accepted without dispute." Mark Brown, The Guardian.

October 5 2006 will see the launch of The British Academy Video Games Awards in association with Nokia N-Gage and PC World , which will be the feature event of the newly-established London Games Festival. This high-profile Awards ceremony will reward artistic, creative and technical innovation within all aspects of the video games industry. With the full support of the industry together with ELSPA, TIGA, the London Development Agency and a BAFTA Video Games committee comprising senior executives and creatives from Microsoft, Sony, Eidos, Activision, Nintendo, Sega, EA, and Ubisoft , the Awards are now poised to be the global benchmark for excellence in video games.
