Rumor: Leaked photo tease Tomb Raider 9 reboot

Four Player Coop snagged a few rumored concept artwork from a reliable mole and suggests a reboot origin story in the works of a younger Lara Croft. Where are the guns? Maybe she has to start out with a bow and arrow and work her up to guns? Who knows! They also suggest a new combat and open world system. A brief was also included with an outline story. When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island’s past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

Interesting things about that article...rated M...a tomb raider game rated M?!

Only thing that really worries me is that it's so un-TombRaider like, that it purely isn't Tomb Raider anymore. I'm happy they're doing something a bit different, but will there actually be any tombs in this game if it's real?

But I'm glad they've upped the survival aspect of it...Lara did feel somewhat superhuman in the past 3 games.

It'd be nice to use Lara's intelligence instead of "Shoot what moves".

I always thought that plane crash story was boring [ ], but that's mostly because I just hate snowy levels...

EDIT: Oh, and the plot says that she was on a research vessel, so the Himilayan crash could have still happened and this is just shortly afterward. Maybe she was just a plain-jane Archaeologist after the crash and this launched her into full-fledged, bad-ass tomb raiding.

I'm so psyched about this. Lawyers have been swooping in all over demanding that the pics be taken down, so I have to believe they're all genuine.

Anyone else think the new Lara looks a lot like Rhona Mitra? :D

From what I get out of that article, having prey stalk Lara seems more like Resident Evil: Nemesis (all of the games in the series got an M rating). Also there are underground tombs on the island that is mentioned, so there will be some tomb raiding.

Now if I only had the money to get a PS3, I'd buy this game.

well if they are going to make this TR rated M, they might as well go back to Lara's original concept

CD changed Core's story, sure...but they've not changed their own story from what I've read.

She became an archaeologist and such before this game, she's just very new at it, that's all. It may even be when her father is still alive.

Another thing that's slightly sad, but most probably going to happen....No more Keeley Hawes. If she can pull off a 'young sounding Lara', then that'll be great, but I doubt they'll keep her.

I'm somewhat excited by sequels this game will bring though. If the skills/abilities Lara defines in this adventure can be mastered in TR10, it sounds like a great re-invention to me....and it's another TR, I'm not complaining as long as it's good!

You got that from 3, and this is important to note...Concept Arts...and some information?

I'm excited by it, it's a new direction TR is going in, and that's quite exciting in my opinion.

If CD had kept it the same as the last 3 TRs it would begin failing. To keep people interested, you need to keep stuff fresh, and this is fresh. As much as I loved Tomb Raider: Underworld...to me, it was just Tomb Raider: Legend with better graphics.

They've completely removed linear gameplay (If it is indeed open-world), which I only praise, and they've added new combat. Now not every person on this forum will have killed an enemy in the same way (by shooting it).

I'm not saying you can't like what you've seen, J7, that's fair enough, but calling it crappy is a bit unfair. That's like me calling it excellent/perfect from the information.

And thanks, Kratos, I missed that bit.

If we're raiding tombs, dodging traps, and solving puzzles with Lara Croft, it's still TR to me.

I always thought it would be cool to see how Lara become such an expert Tomb Raider. From the beginning as they say, seeing how she got her skills and stuff like that.

I still don't know whether I like the concept, but I will have to play it before I pass judgement...

It looks\sounds a lot different to what we're all used to in a TR game.

Hopefully it will be a success and give the series a good boost!

I personally think since Toby Gard is the man at the helm he might be making the 1st TR he had visioned from day one. How perfect now that you can do so much more now than back in 96' so it should be very interesting indeed.

i'm a little skeptical of these new ideas. Also I am sick of this whole revisioning thing all the movies and games are doing like Batman and star trek and now TR. Part of the reason I like TR is cause its not a straight out shooter game more about the exploration of diffrent locales. I like that they're trying something new but I hope they keep some of the main elements the same ( Lara without her guns just seems so wrong). Well I think I'll just wait for more info before I judge it anymore. As long as its more difficult than Underworld I'll probably play it.

Since they are done with the Mommy drama and taking the route as more of a prequel (I guess, before Anniversary?) -- then it makes sense not to include the plane crash.

I'll wait to see more information before I judge.

Oh, and you know I'm excited about the Rated M. About time!

EDIT: Judging by those screen shots it looks like Resident Evil meets Silent Hill meets Final Fantasy meets.. Tomb Raider. :S

I agree with Jolie752. Specially those enemy-sketch seen around web make me feel bit uncomfortable. I don't want just one of those cheap horror stories (too many of them already), Tomb Raider must look and feel like Tomb Raider. But ahh, we'll see what comes. After all, those are just sketches. Hopefully they know what they are doing!

I still need to play TR Underworld!!

I must play it and finish it before I have more Angels!!
