I am unable to swing Lara loose at the opening scene of Monastery chasm, all she does is swing back and forth repeatedly with no effect. What am I doing wrong here people, I am following the instruction on screen, with the left toggle (left and right) and I tend to think I am good at the timing but no luck.

If you are using the PC version, try to use the directional keys, instead of AWSD, that's what I did, and it worked for me

You must swing Lara towards the sack on the right of the screen, effectively knocking it into the flame situated on the wall. This will set the sack on fire, and spread to the wooden beams. Change direction and swing toward the beams, this will ignite Lara's restraints and she'll break free.
