The official name of the next Tomb Raider game is Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and the first screenshot is going straight to where it matters most – the people who have supported Lara across the years.

As most of you may already know, Tomb Raider: Anniversary has drawn its inspiration from the original adventure that started it all. It is a celebration of Lara Croft and the history of the Tomb Raider franchise.

One would need to be blind to not see the impact that Lara Croft has had, both on gaming in general, as well as pop-culture. She is a character that people connect with, a character that transcends the media in which she was originally presented. However, Lara’s rise to fame didn’t just magically happen. There has been a very powerful, dedicated fan base that has not only tracked her every move over the last 10 years, but helped transform her from being just a video game character, to an international digital celebrity.

Over the years, the fans of the Tomb Raider franchise have been constantly asking for a new version of the original Tomb Raider. We have answered the call with Tomb Raider: Anniversary. This game is for the fans. It only makes sense that the first information, as well as much more to come, goes directly to the fans. ive only played aod and legend but this one looks like a wicked one so i want to try this:DDDDD

Oh! Her ponytail is just like the original TR one, but longer. I like it! Is that Lost Valley?! It's not inside a cave anymore? That lost AMAZING!! I hope they keep all the levels!

Sorry i know this is offtopic but im just curious what game did u prefer AOD. legend or AOD?because Lara was really different in both of them and would you ever consider playing any of the older games?

well Lara-Fanatic from what ive heard and read about it, 8 out of 10 times it seems likely the game will release next year about the same time TR Legend did this year ... so lets just say that the TR anniversary will be in stores somewhere between February and April next year. well like i said that is just what ive heard, and i know if they would like to make it a reall TR anniversary edition they should have bring it out in Nobember.

well atleast now that we all have seen this first screenshot we all just know that the game shouldnt take any longer from now on

and like i said before its just rumors that are going over this forum and the intire inernet about the TR anniversary edition realease date , but just like everyone else i hope the wait wont be long

I don't mind waiting a bit longer for this game after all we've already had Legend this year and TR:iDVD comes out real soon as well.

I wonder if TR Anniversary will use the original music from TR1 or if it would be revamped?

I'm looking forward to seeing Atlantis and those Atlantean creatures again..not to mention the dinosaurs and Palace Midas. I hope they keep Midas' hand, so when Lara treads on it she'll turn in to solid gold. Oh and the long plunge to death in St Francis' volly and the even longer on in The great pyramid level..Mwahahaha I remember Lara screaming at least 3 times before she hit the pool of lava at the bottom.

No if you look at her pony in the pic at the top of the page her pony... I dunno... It doesnt look like a pony or a braid...

Her braid is shorter than usual, but the bit at the bottom looks a like a graphical glitch. I'm sure they'll sort that out come release date. I'm glad to see her old backpack and pistols again...

So the anniversary of Tomb Raider 1 is today?

well i dont know if its actually today ... but November 2006 is the TR 10th anniversary, so maby we can call this whole month as the Lara Croft and Tomb Raider month

Actual anniversary is the 15th of November in the USA, and the 22nd in Uk! I guess we could celebrate Uk release!!

Nice pics. By looking at the first pic at the top of the page, it looks as if they are going to bring back the original look of her pony tail in a short stump. I hope not. they should give her the full pony tail. That's why i fell in love with her in the first place was because of her ponytail
