I remember in 1989 I had an Apple Color Computer and Prodigy internet service. Every one of my friends that came over and took a look at it said "No way. That's just too much work. So many things on the (home page) screen to click on and it takes you to more stuff you can click on. You will be on it all day!"

Do you still remember when was the first time you went on the World Wide Web using an internet service and what was your initial impression and reaction?

I was a late individual to get online. It was around 97' Started with America Online until I got educated and took off the training wheels.

I then switched to surfree.com it was 15 a month and of course dial-up. Used Internet Explorer and a basic connection on a 33k modem.

Then sometime early 2002 cable and the rest is history. When I heard welcome from AOL when it connected it was pretty cool at the time.

Don't you miss those day's of have a download go all night for a few megabytes lol.

I used to do cartwheels when I connected at 49,900 kbps on my 52 k modem!

I uploaded LCO on dial-up back in the day lol That was a blast!

In 1982, my brother was an Engineer and he worked at Schlumberger on the night shift.

I would go there sometime and get on the computer and connect using a phone cradle modem and played Star Trek against anyone who was 'online'.

Every move we made was printed out on green and white printer paper with the pre-perforated edges.

I remember in the '80s my dad used to use videotex on our television. It was expensive and hardly ever actually worked

We got dial-up Internet in the mid-'90s and it was amazing at the time, although the novelty wore off ten years later when the rest of the world was getting broadband Internet we were still stuck on dial-up because of our backward state-owned phone company

Just like James i also got online through Prodigy late 80's. Forget about incoming calls when you were online, anyone that called got a busy signal. Man that old computer i used then, it was a big deal to connect at 28,800.

Oh and for a little while my dad had a BBS, people would actually call our computer to download files. We would do the same and call out to other computers. Also i think then that's how instant messaging got started, every BBS had an option to page the sysop (system operator). You could chat with them, if they weren't busy.

But now i wouldn't want to go back to that, i like to click on my browser and go to another page in seconds.
