My computer is running slow

Featured Replies

I got a new high speed connection about a couple weeks ago and since then I've been having problems. First thing is my sound, it tends to repeat like a broken record would. Next thing is my clock, it gets behind. I did download an atomic clock program that allows me to adjust the time, but that gets annoying after a few times. I have thought of a couple of a solutions to fix my computer, but I want to get some input from some of you guys here before I do anything. If you have anything helpful, feel free to post it.

what kind of High Speed Connection?

Cable?

DSL?

Is it connected directly from the wall to the Cable/DSL modem and

then

from the Cable/DSL modem to your PC or is there a wireless router in between the Cable/DSL modem and your computer?

What kind of firewall are you using?

Zone Alarm

Windows XP Firewall

or others

Do you have Norton Internet Security?

I am on Bellsouth Fastaccess DSL

I use a wireless network card and a base that connects to my computer by USB port. The router is wireless also.

I have Zonealarm Pro

No, I don't have Norton Internet Security

check your wireless router settings

did you install the router software and wireless card software correctly

also go here and check your status, signal, configuration and logs:

I closed most of the things I saw running execpt for a few key things like the windows explorer and the system tray...I must've had 10 processes running...I'll keep it this way and see what happens.

Actually I have Win 98SE....I even uninstalled the updates I once had on my computer, maybe with those gone I won't have any more problems.

I also closed down the wireless connection tool for my wireless modem that is in the system tray, that seemed to help a lot.
