Very near the Fishing Village camp, towards the waterfall, there is a small pool of water that leads to an underwater passage, but it is blocked by a narrow slit-opening that I am unable to squeeze through.  Anyone know what the story is with this?

Lara comes out of that later in the game.

As Spirant said, after escaping from Cenote region, that rock slit is where you return to Hidden City. Far as I know it is one way only.

I also recall a rock slit somewhere above (I think on the ledge well above the water), that Lara could see through enough to see survival activated objects inside, but it wasn't opened until later on. I don't recall if it was a return path or had to be enabled via a mission quest.

That one is part of one of Uchu's side missions. I just played it yesterday so it's fresh in my mind. So many paths and passageways!

 

Okay, but if you go up to grab the document after you climb the tree at the fishing district camp, if you stand on the cliff up there and look straight across there’s a bunch of boards, boarding up a secret entrance. anybody know what that is?
