OK. I admit I started out with all good intentions as far as replaying TR3 with the group goes. But I dropped the ball. I am ashamed…and sad to have missed out on the fun. So now I'm here to beg your collective pardon and ask if anyone would like to play through TR1 with me.

I don't know if you all read Games Radar's Tomb Raider Week feature, but in it they did some side-by-side comparisons of the classic TR and Anniversary, and it got me thinking. I definitely want to replay the original before Anniversary comes out.

Sometimes, to understand the present, you have to go back to the past…pointy boobs and all. So who's with me?

P.S. If anyone needs help finding the original game or setting it up on their computer, I'll be glad to help.

Sounds good, count me in I passed TR1 couple months ago so I shouldn't have any problems passing it again

I've actually gone back to playing TR 1 on my PS2...I've already made it to Natla's Mines...started back on it a couple weeks ago.

Stella I would, put my old PS1 disk is just so old, it doesn't work.

I'll join in! I've already got TR1 installed and working on my PC so I'm ready to go

(although I do have two more levels of TR3 to get through for the TR3 thread which I'll try to do over the next few days...)

I'm not in any hurry. I just want to get through it before Anniversary comes out. If anyone in the TR3 group isn't done yet and wants to finish that first, it's OK with me. Purple and Blade might have to wait for the rest of us to catch up.

I'd actually love it if people would use my walkthrough and pick it apart. I'll be revising it on this run-through, adding screenshots for all the secret areas, including suggestions people have sent me, and fixing things that seem unclear. So, yeah, any comments and corrections would be more than welcome.

If anyone is having trouble installing the game on a newer PC, my page http://tombraiders.net/stella/downloads/TR1install.html might be a good place to start. Then if you get hung up, you can post questions here.

Also, if anybody wants to try the new Tomb Raider Xtra high-res texture packs for the PC, now might be a good time. You can find info about those, as well as a few options for restoring music and sound effects to the PC game, on that same page.

And if anyone wants to play but doesn't have the game (Mike?), Amazon.com has the PC, PlayStation and Macintosh versions currently.

Well I'm most of the way through City of Tinnos, then it's just the Meteorite Cavern to do, so I can start TR1 whenever everyone else is ready.

So when shall we start?

I did the first level last night. That was fun! I even remembered the locations of all three secrets. I know it's not going to be that easy in the later levels.

I was hoping to play on my desktop computer with somewhat better graphics, but I forgot that my first CD drive is busted, and Tomb Raider won't run in the second drive. So I'm playing on my laptop. It's not bad, but I was hoping to get some better screenshots.

I'm not using any of the new texture packs because I want people to be able to recognize everything in the screenshots I'll be adding to my walkthrough. But I am playing with restored sound from Glidos and I noticed a few odd music triggers. (Minor spoilers ahead.)

The dramatic music in the area above exit where you meet the wolf is way too long for the amount of time it takes to finish the combat. Also in the room with the greenery and timed door, if you climb up on the right of the secret area to make the jump to the ledge from there, dramatic music is triggered for no apparent reason.

Odd but interesting. I guess that's what PlayStation people always had.

Other than that, I'm loving the music. Nathan McCree's score is so sparse and yet completely perfect. And I find the subtle background soundtrack along with Lara's solitary footsteps so much more atmospheric than the overpowering full-orchestra scores in the later games.

I'm packing for Portugal at the moment and have thrown in me TR1 CD and laptop so I hope to join yous soon! I've never complted TR1 before!! It's about time that was sorted out..

If anyone knows anything about DOSBox I need some advice. I have Tomb Raider 1 installed to run with dgVoodoo, and another version which runs with DOSBox. The DOSBox version runs absolutely perfectly (plus I can play using a CD image instead of having to put my game disc in my physical drive), except at a very low resolution. The dgVoodoo version I can run at a high resolution but I have problems with the keyboard controls, with the game not running at the correct speed, and with the FMVs not displaying correctly. I don't suppose anyone would have any idea how I can change the resolution when playing in DOSBox to be at least 1024x768? I've tried playing around with the dosbox.conf file and changed the line "windowresolution" to 1024x768, but that just changed the window size while the FMVs were playing...

I'll be a little later joining. I'm waiting on Amazon to ship me a new PS1 disk (Thanks Stella!).

I've never played through the whole levels in Egypt and some Alantis, I always used cheats to skip them.

The only cheats I may use is unlimited ammo/health. Only if I get really stuck!

I'm in Tomb Of Qualapec, I was playing last night for a while. My camera ran out of battery so I couldn't take a picture of the TV screen to get the stats.

I was thinking about doing the Lost Valley without killing anything. I've heard of this, and someone just brought it up again on the alt.games.tombraider newsgroup yesterday. Talk about timely. I'll let you know how that goes when I get there. Has anybody else done it?

I didn't manage to get every pickup like that guy did though, and you do need rather a lot of medipacks to do it.

I am in TR2 hanging out on a balcony at Bartolli's hideout. Not exactly TR1 anniversary grade but does this count for anything? Haven't had luck loading TR1 on XP, but now I have the instructions and will get it done soon. I'm new to the forum, so I am in the middle of figuring out this neat new stuff here. Good raiding to all. Thanks to Stella for her great help, from the Old Raider. I have been going nuts trying to wipe out that crazy sea serpent in Legend! Falcon ^_^

Me and Panther have each started, both done the first level, and bost missed one secret!!

We have an interesting bug whereby the CD music doesn't work on Panther's computer, and the secret noises and some sound effects don't work on mine. Luckily, as long as we play the levels at the same time, we have a complete set of sounds

We just played and finished City of Vilcabamba and The Lost Valley! We missed one secret in each We were almost sure we had them all... but I guess not...

Next is the Tomb of Qualopec!

I'm using the audio fixes from Glidos (there's a link in one of my earlier posts ^^^) and it's working well. The only problem is there's a slight delay on all the sounds. So, for example, Lara fires her guns and a second later you hear the bang. A wolf dies and a second later you hear that last yelp. Maybe it's just my sound card. It's a little weird but I'm learning to live with it.

@Falcon: Welcome! Let us know if you need any help setting up the game. I'm moving slowly and Mike doesn't even have the game yet, so I'm sure you'll have time to catch up.

I finished Vilcabamba last night. I got all the secrets, but I'm following my own walkthrough (lol) and editing it as I go. It's taking me forever because I keep having to stop to make notes and take screenshots, but it's still fun. I'll never be a speedrunner.

@Shrensh: Awesome Lost Valley screen! I have off from work tomorrow and I'm going to give it a shot.

I'm having this funny (and very helpful) bug: I can see through walls! So, I get to see where some of the secrets are! It works with other things too, like objects and things we need to pick up or doors to open! Don't know why it's happening!

I just finished St. Francis Folley! Very good level imo! The best so far, I believe!
