Has anyone else noticed this!

I'm only a the Lost Valley (bless me) and I noticed, just after killing the bear and climbing the wooden ledges - I accidentally died (ie falling off the ledge) after taking the artifact - so, I reloaded my game, did exaclty the same thing, and when I got to the ledge with the artifact, nothing there, just a pile of bones.......are they taking the P**s or what? the chimes went and everything as if i'd found the secret, but nothing, i was pretty miffed..

I think that if you find an artefact, it stays found even if you die before you reach another checkpoint. Check your stats, it might still be there.

Check your statistics. You'll find that you have collected the artifact. Once collected you don't need to fetch it again so if you die you don't need to repeat any tricky bits. If on the way you've collected anything else though you will have to fetch that again.

and. how do i check my stats?

cos, i tried pressing select and all it shows is the journal, is it me being thick or what?

Press "start". You must have pressed this to save your game surely? You're not going to tell me you haven't been saving?

Press 'start' (Esc on the PC) and go to level statistics You can find out how many artifacts there are on each level and how many you have

Further on in the game you'll be even more happy that you actually keep the artifacts when you die before a checkpoint.... trust me....
