You use to have to wait a year for a dvd but now it can be as short as 3 months. I think that and high popcorn and soda prices have killed the movie theater business.

It's a lot cheaper to wait and the whole family can watch for one price for on demand.

I only saw 4 movies (2 of them being The Predator and Tomb Raider) in the theaters this year and the other were kids movies (The Incredibles 2 and Smallfoot) and we took our children to it.

Every 2018 theatrical release I've seen this year I waited for the home video or online web download.

Here another Marvel movie that's also due out next year.

I think I've only been to see three movies this year -- and they were Tomb Raider, Deadpool 2 and Jurassic World 2...it just gets too expensive. For what it costs for two tickets, I can pick up the bluray three months later cheaper.

That was the day almost 40 years ago that Superman was released to the theaters.

Filmed concurrently with Superman II, from a script that originally ran 550+ pages for both films and was rewrote several times to cut it down to 300 rough pages, with a budget of over $55 million, it was at the time the most expensive movie ever made.

Stuck in production hell since 1973, some of the actors that were originally considered for the role of Superman and a few of them were even offered the role of Superman were:

"Muhammad Ali :confused:, Al Pacino, Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Dustin Hoffman.

Robert Redford was offered a large sum, but felt he was too famous. Burt Reynolds also turned down the role, while Sylvester Stallone was interested, but nothing ever came of it.

Paul Newman was offered his choice of roles as Superman, Lex Luthor or Jor-El for $4 million, turning down all three roles.

Olympic champion Bruce Jenner had auditioned for the title role. Patrick Wayne was cast, but dropped out when his father John Wayne was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Both Neil Diamond and Arnold Schwarzenegger lobbied hard for the role, but were ignored. James Brolin, Lyle Waggoner, Christopher Walken, Nick Nolte, Jon Voight, and Perry King were approached. Kris Kristofferson and Charles Bronson were also considered for the title role.

James Caan said he was offered the part but turned it down. "I just couldn't wear that suit."

"We found guys with fabulous physique who couldn't act or wonderful actors who did not look remotely like Superman," creative consultant Tom Mankiewicz remembered. The search became so desperate that producer Ilya Salkind's wife's dentist was screen tested.

Finally, (now famous) casting director Stalmaster convinced the director and producers to have an unknown actor named Christopher Reeve screen test in February 1977 and the rest was history. 

Directors that were offered the helm of this movie or were considered to direct included George Lucas (who was busy working on Star Wars), Steven Spielberg (who already committed to Close Encounters of the Third Kind), Guy Hamilton (director of four James Bond films: Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, the Man with the Golden Gun), Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, Richard Lester, Peter Yates, John Guillermin, Ronald Neame and Sam Peckinpah.

Finally Richard Donner, who at the time just made the very successful The Omen, was hired as the director for both Superman and Superman II.

He filmed both films concurrently and when Superman II was almost 75% complete and Superman was only partly complete and had gone way over budget, it was decided to stop filming Superman II and concentrate on Superman - with everyone saying that the film will bomb so why even bother to finish filming Superman II."

Watching last night episode of NCIS Los Angeles.

That's Dina Meyer.

 

Remember her?

She was Dizzy in Starship Troopers.

The trooper that got killed by a bug on the remote lost outpost.

 

I don't think I've seen her in anything since she was in several Saw films in the 2000's and I also don't remember her being that thick in Starship Troopers.

She's 49 years old now - her 50th birthday in 12 days!

I tried to watch First Man.

Turned it off after 27 minutes.

Who the heck decided to cast Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong?

What an insult to the real Mr. Armstrong and to everyone who was involved in the Gemini and Apollo program in a race to beat the Commies to the moon.

Then add that we all read about how the director, a Frenchman who forgotten that the USA saved his country twice from becoming a permanently German speaking slave colony, decide to omit the USA flag planting on the moon scene, there is no reason for me to watch the rest of this disrespectful 2 hours and 12 minutes stinker!!

Thinking about seeing The Mule.

But what's with the negative reviews?

Gerard Butler saves the same U.S. President twice in Olympus Has Fallen and then in London Has Fallen.

Next he will save the U.S. President again in Angel Has Fallen in August 2019.

But in the meantime, Butler has decided to join the U.S. Navy and save the Russian Federation President while at the same time prevent the USA and Russia from slugging it out in a full scale World War III.

This movie feels like a hybrid of between The Hunt For Red October, Crimson Tide and just about every recent actioners involving Navy Seals and Special Forces - from Act of Valor to The Expendable series.

But don't worry, this film boasts a total of 27 producers, co-producers and executive producers, one of them being Butler himself, so you know with all that producing talent behind it, it got to be good, right?

NOPE!

The acting is laughable, the story is ludicrous and the action sequences are... well, let's just say that I've seen better action sequences in those cut scenes that are shown in between levels of many X-Box and Playstation FPS games.

Some IDIOT Studio executive at Sony Pictures wants to REBOOT the 

RESIDENT EVIL franchise

and ALICE won't be in it.

It's not a RESIDENT EVIL movie without ALiCE and without Milla Jovovich!

STOP with these REBOOTS!

I think it's WAY too early for any sort of Resident Evil film reboot! STOP THE REBOOTS!

Having said that, I would eventually like to see more Resident Evil films. As much as I loved the film series, there are a few things that always bugged me.

1. Getting Jill back at the end of Retribution, only for her and a great line up of characters to be killed off and not seen at the start of The Final Chapter.

2. Chris & Jill seemingly having no knowledge of each other, even though they were S.T.A.R.S partners. Where did Chris go after Afterlife anyway?

3. How Wesker died in The Final Chapter. I mean, c'mon, really, a door dropping on the leg of a man who had to date regenerated from a sawn-off full of quarters and a knife to the head, two full clips from pistols and an explosion.

I wanted to see more of the army of ALICE clones but they all died at the beginning of Afterlife

That would have been good too!

I agree if you re-boot the series start with something fresh. Don't be like Spider Man lol.

 

Bad Times At The El Royale (2018)

The El Royale hotel, located off the beaten path, built right on the California/Nevada border with its main lobby, lounge and restaurant spanning each side of both States and with rooms located in both Nevada and California, was during its heyday in the 1950's the go to place for the wealthy and powerful and famous.

The movie opens in 1959 with one solitary man checking into one of El Royale's rooms.

Most folks when they first walk into a hotel room, they make sure that there are plenty of towels, that the TV works, that the bed is not too hard and there are plenty of pillows on it:
this unidentified person does something completely different, opposite, very strange and unconventional which I will not give away.

Fast forward 10 years to 1969, the El Royale has lost its luster and most of its rooms have fallen into disarray. Very few people even know it exists and its rooms have not seen any guests in a long time.

4 strangers arrives at the hotel at almost the same time: a priest, a down and out back up singer dreaming of becoming the next big act in Reno's finest casinos, a traveling vacuum cleaner salesman, and a foul mouthed young woman.
4 strangers who do not know each other with nothing in common and who will give new meaning to two of the many social etiquettes our parents taught us as soon as we were old enough to understand them:

1. don't talk to strangers
and
2. don't stick your nose in business that doesn't concern you.

To say any more is to spoil the movie.
I can say that the first act of the movie where each one of the 4 strangers are introduced with a backstory and a flashback scene is the best part.
But the 2nd act where the story tries to cohesively bring them together by finding some type of common ground among them is when the story begans to unravel and fall apart.
Then by the time the 3rd and final act is shown, everything just felt forced, formulaic, convenient and way too clean and tidy.

We have seen this movie many times before, there is even a genre name for it on IMDB:
"Group of Strangers meet in a one room setting movies"

Director Drew Goddard, famous for his directorial debut of the very successful anti-horror comedy Cabin In The Woods and for writing critical hits such as The Martian and Cloverfield, tries to take something that's been done before and elevate it to a different and better level:

he attempts to do so by evoking narrative and exposition styles borrowed from many similar movies before it but he just can't completely pull it off.

On IMDB, this movie has received a rating of 7.3 out of 10.0] using the mean average from a total of 381 reviews:

65 of them gave it a 10 out of 10, calling it: A Must See, Brilliant, Great Movie!, Outstanding, Best I've seen in a long time, Awesome, Wow, They don't make it like this anymore, Best Tarantinosque movie ever, Best Movie of 2018, Favorite film of 2018, etc., etc.

180 of them gave it an 7 to 9 out of 10 rating with equal praises to boot.

On Rotten Tomatoes, out of 218 critics who reviewed it, 191 of them gave it a Fresh tomato rating and called it exquisite, audacious, top notch, intriguing, mesmerizing, magnificent, etc., etc.

This must be the most critically over-hyped movie by both audience and critics I've seen this year and in the past couple of years.
It's worth a look if you have almost 2 hours and 21 minutes to spare but by the time the ending credits start to roll, you won't even have one memorable scene from it to remember it by.

So filming has been completed but the movie won't be released until sometime in the Summer of 2020.

It takes a year and a half to do the special effects, the CGI, the audio dubbing, the editing, the music soundtrack, the dialogue audio tracks in foreign languages?

Then the finish final cut and reproduced 1000s of copies of it for the movie theaters in the USA and across the world.

I hope they guard the original master negative prints.

What's stopping someone working at any of the companies that does the things I mentioned above to walk out with a copy of it?
