  1. Great idea! I haven't but I've been meaning to check it out. For AmandaA313 and anyone else who wants to try it, I'll give it a go tomorrow (too tired tonight) and post my process here. With 3 games in the mix, I may not play every level. Maybe I'll just skip around to the ones I like.
  2. It's great to see everybody! Welcome, new people, and welcome back, returning "groupies." Jessica (Mute2Conversations) is the "boss" for this one, since she started the thread, but as far as I'm concerned, there are no rules except (1) follow the forum guidelines and (2) have fun. Rule 2 can be temporarily suspended during the centaur fight and the climb up the inside of the pyramid in TRA. Post whatever you like--screenshots, videos, poetry, interpretive dance--the more the better.
  3. Unless someone else has a better idea that I can copy, I think I'll play one TR1 level, then the corresponding Anniversary level, then the next TR1 level, the same TRA level, and so on. Not sure how far I'll get, but I like the idea of comparing the experience in the different versions.
  4. I'm in! Never did get very far with TR3, but I'll have to do that one later. I'd rather play with you guys than all by myself.
  5. That's a drag. I have save files on my site for after the various lantern sequences. You could use one of those to skip that section if all else fails.
  6. You are totally badass! I ended up trying all sorts of things all different ways, but I try to include the more cautious strategies in the walkthrough because most of the badasses don't come to my site looking for help. I cater mostly to chickens like myself.
  7. There are a few respawning bad guys when you revisit Shantytown but nowhere near as many as you encounter the first time. You'll be fine.
  8. You shouldn't have any trouble. 90% of Shantytown is still accessible when you fast travel back there. If you fast travel to the Helicopter Hill base camp, you can head down to the Ancient Gate, go through, and explore most of the second area. As far as I know, the only camp in Shantytown that is *not* accessible on subsequent visits is the Vista Tower Day Camp. That's the last one, whicht you visit
  9. I agree 100%. More puzzles, less combat--or at least more varied combat. In the old games--even the previous Crystal Dynamics games--there were animals, insects, bats, etc., not to mention supernatural entities. This one was just one dirty, smelly dude after another. The combat mechanics were great, once you got used to them, but the battles were too many and too tedious. The challenge tombs were fun enough, except that they were too well marked and Lara kept interrupting to try and "help" me if I didn't solve the puzzle within 30 seconds. I miss the days when you couldn't move on to the next area until you figured out some big, complicated puzzle. There were a few like that (the room with the bell and the shutters, the dangling cage near the end, etc.) but not nearly as many as I'd like. I want to get lost. I want to bang my head against a puzzle for a while before I finally have that ah-ha moment. I want to fight the final boss, not kill him in an epic QTE. Do I sound like a curmudgeon? I guess I am. I don't want to come off as only complaining though. There were a lot of things I loved about the game. Fast travel is brillant. The weapon and skill upgrades were just about perfect. I liked documents, relics, and GPS caches--plus all the challenges like the egg poaching, flag burning, etc. The levels were gorgeous, and the controls were excellent. No more random, uncontrollable camera moments! I hope we'll get more of that and less of the other in the next game.
  10. I wonder how long until we actually start hearing some details. Part of me thinks since they've put in so much work on revamping the game engine, the sequel will go more quickly. But then there's the next-gen factor. How much of what they did for the last game will have to be redone for PS4/Xbox One? I'm so tech ignorant.
  11. What Shrensh said ^^. I would also suggest making sure you have the most recent version of the game. (Open Steam, go to Library, right-click Tomb Raider, and choose Properties. Then, under Updates, make sure you have selected "Always keep this game up to date.") There was a patch early on that helped fix performance during QTEs. That may help here. You might also try disabling "Tesselation" in the advanced graphics options. (I think Shrensh told me about that as well.) A lot of people seem to have trouble with button response during the QTEs with the button prompts, like in the wolf cave, and sequences like this where you need to steer Lara through a series of hazards by pressing particular keys. I don't know what Tesselation is, but disabling it seems to make those button prompts more responsive for some players. Finally, you might also want to make sure your video card drivers are current. Several video card manufacturers have released driver updates specificially targeted toward recent games like TR. Good luck!
  12. What happens when you try to fast travel back to Shipwreck Beach? EDIT: Oh, I think I understand what you're saying now. You didn't use fast travel to get back to Shanytown, you dropped down from the gondola platform. In that case, I think you are going to have to revert to an older save. If you're playing on the PC, I have a collection of saves for each level that you can download here: http://tombraiders.net/stella/savegame/TR9saves.html.
  13. Hi, Blonde Geek. Welcome to the forum. I'm not 100% sure about every weapon part, but I've been experimenting and have found that when you miss a part, it will usually show up shortly afterward in a different salvage crate. If this one doesn't turn up in one of the crates early on in Shantytown, you can always fast travel back to Mountain Village and scout around some more. But I'm pretty sure the game wants to keep you on track. So as long as you keep looting bodies and opening salvage crates, you should get all the parts.
  14. Too bad about the game, but that's great news about the collectibles. Unopened no less! WTG! BTW, I had to postpone the livestream, but I'm hoping to do it next weekend. Stay tuned....
  15. Awesome! I haven't had a chance to work out the details yet, but I hope to get it organized today. I'll try to remember to post here when I have more details, but if you want to email me, I'll be sure to send you the latest news. I haven't played AOD in ages, so I'm probably going to suck a lot, but that'll be fun in its own way.
  16. Wish I knew. I'm planning to pay closer attention on my 3rd pass through the game and note XP/level progression as well as salvage and weapon part awards. Those seem to be sort of but not completely random. Mysteries abound!
  17. I'm not sure why your game isn't registering the checkpoint near the fountain, but if you can't get through it to the next checkpoint, and you're playing the PC version, you're welcome to download my saves here. Instructions for installing are linked from that page.
  18. Glad it worked out. The good news about revisiting Shantytown is there aren't nearly as many maniacs trying to kill you.
  19. Hi, rudnet. Do you mean on the 3rd short visit to Shantytown after the Summit Forest level? I suspect players weren't "supposed" to be able to get to the lower areas. I tried repeatedly and failed. Guess you got "lucky." Can you get to either of the Fast Travel camps in Shantytown, travel back to Summit Forest, and go through the tunnel again to Shantytown?
  20. Ed_), I had the same experience when I started with the controller but it does get easier with practice. I think you'll find it's well worth the switch. Good luck and raid on!
  21. ^^ What Shrensh said, except if you're using the keyboard and mouse it's the Space Bar instead of the middle mouse button, which is the usual Alternate Fire button.
  22. Hi, mainers67. Welcome to the forum. In the Cliffside Bunker, the 4 "Previous Inhabitants" flags are: In the Research Base, the "Sun Killer" totems are: Hope that helps. Sorry I don't have screenshots, but I will once I get to that level in the walkthrough.
  23. I really like my Xbox controller. I played Legend with the keyboard and mouse but "graduated" for Anniversary. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I like it *much* better. This might be a good time to try it, since a lot has changed with the new control scheme. You may need to restart with the earlier (less dangerous) levels just to get the hang of it, but I highly recommend it.
  24. I play on the PC but with an Xbox controller, so it shows me the Xbox symbols. The PC icons are not exactly *intuitive*. ;P
  25. It's actually the Interact button you need to press there. So if you haven't reassigned any keys, it should be E. Otherwise, whichever key you assigned to that function. The timing isn't too precise here. As long as you press it while the prompt is on-screen, you should be good. FWIW, most of the QTEs involve either the Melee button (F) or Interact button (E). I'm not sure why they show generic red icons rather than the actual letters, maybe to keep from having to display different icons if case people reassign keys, or maybe for international play, like on Japanese keyboards.
