Officially declare good gaming dead
er, I er, well... you didnt really seem to mention many really serious problems you had with the game? challenging puzzles? there are puzzles, have you got to St. Francis folly? four rooms, first you have to get in (challenge #1) then you have to get the key (challenge #2) then you have to get out again (challenge #3). I personally found the levels to be challenging, but dooable. Like the original, but not like TR3, which was just stupid. Some of the rooms were a bit easy, but I think that is because I got used to what I should be looking for, and after TR3 it all is easier with the old Tomb Raider I found I kept accidently finding secrets, taking less obvious paths, when I thought it would be the exit, which was more obvious than I thought. With this TR I always find the way out when looking for secrets, as the levels seem more complex. ah well, I really dont see your problem with the game... Running and jumping has always been what TR is all about. Yes, the combat is awful, but it always was a bit rubbish, and its not like its a combat oriented game. Most reviews say the combat is worse, and I agree, but there is a small enough amount of combat that it does not ruin the game. I feel the story has been improved, to the point where I noticed it.... it is still a bit rubbish, but being based off the first game, there is only so much they could do. I also (last point, promise ) dont see how it feels like something 2 people did in a coffee break. I personally have found the game to be very polished indeed... smooth frame rates, no glitches or bugs at all thus far. Still, I guess we all have our different tastes. Its a shame you didnt like the game Perhaps you could try upping the difficulty, though I don't know what the game changes with that, and turning hint icons off, for a more authentic TR experience.

lol, dont be. Its just that I was slightly hesitant to look in the spoiler, but if I had known that it wasnt spoiling the story or anything, I would have looked at it right away anyway, dont take it back, otherwise there will be no "who wants to replay TR anniversary" in 2015 where we all look at the graphics and collectively gasp at how rudimentary they are

An interesting comparison between the levels
thanks Lara man! I completed Lost Valley in 1:29:26, which is still a hell of a difference. The first level was about 20 minutes, compared to 15 for the original.

TR Reflection
#1) I play TR on PC. #2) Tell us about how you came across TR for the first time- My brother playing TR3 was probably my first memory- the South Pacific islands especially. #3) TR 3 was the first TR game I played. #4) TR N/A- shaping up to be anniversary. (I was dead scared of TR when I was younger, so I just played Laras Home... boring ) was the first TR game I passed. #5) Name your top 3 favorite TR games. Anniversary, 1 and 3, dispite the STUPID PUZZLES in 3- the South Pacific islands save it. #6) Which TR game was your least favorite? Why? Chronicles. I didnt like it. I only played a small amount of the 1st level. #7) TR 1 was the easiest for me because the puzzles seemed logical and easy afrer the insanity of III. #8) TR III was a challenge for me because of some of the silly block puzzles. #9) How often did you have to use a walkthrough/stratedgy guide? Sometimes, loads on TR3 though. Very rarely on TR1. #10) Were you always on the hunt and look out for the TR secrets? I wasnt, but I am now. I only bother with the good ones though- the secrets in II were just boring. #11) Pierre or Larson- I can only answer this now! Pierre. Hes funny. #12) TR IV was the creepiest and often made me jump. Where you take the amulet and the lava starts and I knew the mummies were around and the CREEEPY MUSIC #13) Which TR game was the one that you enjoyed playing the most? Why? TR1 for sure. Seemed a breath of playable fresh air after III #14) The hardest level in TR1 was St Francis folly (so far) because The Thor room. #15) The hardest level in TR2 was cant say as Im only on venice, I'd imagine 40 fathoms or Offshore rig because in offshore rig she had no weapons and although I havent played 40 fathoms, it looked hard. #16) The hardest level in TR3 was Temple Ruins/High Security Compound because BLOCK PUZZLE/ENDLESS KEYS! and the lack of weapons in High Security Compound. I got lost loads. #17) The hardest level in TR4 The Last Revelation was Race for the iris because I am sure it is impossible to win . #18) The hardest level in TR5 Chronicles was the first one because it was so hard dealing with the dissapointment. #19) The hardest level in TR6 The Angel of Darkness was __________ because _________. didnt play #20) The hardest level in TR7 Legend was __________ because _________. didnt play bear in mind here I played 3 and 2 when I was younger, but didnt do the levels except venice (I liked venice). I then (after a long hiatus) bought Chronicles, which I hated. Then I tried the levels of 3 (oct 06- when I registered here) then 1,2 and TLR about 2 weeks ago- so my play order of the games is a bit wonky.

An interesting comparison between the levels
I just finished the Lost Valley in anniversary, and remembered I took a screenshot of the end stats screen of the original when I completed it roughly a week ago. Out of interest, I took a screenshot of the anniversary stats screen, to compare the kills and completion time. Suffice to say, I couldnt believe it. See for yourselves: EDIT: Sorry, silly me. I didn't realise the completion time was cumulative. D'oh.

favorite level of each game
I havent completed any of them... but TR1 so far, probably the peru missions- the temple one. er, cant remember its name. Temple of qualopec or something TR2- Venice, Venice, Venice TR3- South Sea Islands-costal village, crash site et al. I didnt play them but loved watching my brother playing them. I enjoyed Jungle as well, with the slide TR4- the train one. The er, tomb where you get the amulet is damn creepy though TR Chronicles- couldnt get to work properly, didnt like it anyway TR AOD- never had TR Legend- never had TR Anniversary- So far probably the Lost Valley. Im stuck on the T-Rex though. Hate him. Cant do the adrenaline dodge to save my life, which is its purpose

I JUST KILLED ANNIVERSARY
I think the block-switch problem should be sticked. I've heard a lot about it these past few days... seems lots of people are getting stuck. Ah well, TR3 had its invisible walls and looping levels, so I guess in comparison this isn't too bad

Review
Well, I received the game this morning! The graphics of the game are nice, but then everyone knows that. I did however find them overly dark and gloomy in places. I liked the references in Lara's Home to some previous locations, it was a nice touch So far I have done only a couple of Peru levels. I wasn't overwhelmed to be honest. The levels are quite nicely done, but dark. The environments are as promised- reminiscent of the original, yet new. I think my main problem with the game is it seems a lot more linear than the old block based ones. Sure, the blocks were, er, blocky but you felt that in the room/environment you could get to every nook and cranny. In Anniversary there is only one way around the room, usually involving shimmying round some fairly obvious ledges repeatedly, then doing a flip-jump thing on a pole, then back onto more ledges.... I guess I am sounding quite negative. I did enjoy the experience, but not as much as I enjoyed the original. It can't be the rose tinted glasses of the past as I played the original for the first time only about a week ago.... Anyway. Its early days in the game.

heheh, it was so funny when she said No. In such a "Why would you even think of that, Im sick of such decisions" way.

heh, lucky I ordered mine a few days ago and really hoped I would get it on launch... still, the anticipation is building! EuroGamer gave it 90% ! I was replaying the original, but I think I should stop now, thanks to Boxer2's advice.

What you like or didn't like about Legend.
I've always thought how silly that was... In The Simpsons Hit And Run they had quite a funny tutorial with Bart showing the controls er, anyway. I only played the demo but I didn't like Zip and Alistor, the personal light source, the dull combat (none of the weapons felt very fun to use) I can also say that I would HATE puzzle hints. I am rubbish at puzzles, but that means that when it is finally solved, it is all the more fun I didnt like the movie-fitting alterations either, but then I hated the movie.

TR Anniversary Demo Released! Discuss it HERE!
Presumably that involves disabling the ending splash screen so all of the level can be played, which is AFAIK probably illegal. Maybe I am wrong. I would like to know what the T-Rex fight was like though, In the original I didnt realise it was such a big thing- I did it a few days ago and thought it was just another enemy.... I guess at the time the game was released it was awesome... Anyway, I loved the demo. Im playing TR1 for the first time ATM and had just finished the original lost valley level so it was awesome seeing the modern version
