As the poll asks, Are you going to buy Microsoft Windows Vista?

If not, why? Is it the "bugs" that you are afraid that Vista may infect your PC with? If you have it, do you like it?

Don't get me wrong. XP is fine but Vista is inevitable.

I voted for buying when Service Pack 1's released. I was going to upgrade our 3 main computers right away, but I think I'd rather wait. By then, the major bugs will be discovered, and released in one easy patch. I'm not worried about anything specific, but I'm sure a bunch of hackers out there are going to try to find all the security flaws possible. At least with Service Pack 1, most of the major security flaws and program bugs will be found. For now, XP's running fine on our 5 computers, so I don't feel like putting out the expense, although I'm dying to give Vista a try.

I usualy wait a year or two til it's running a bit more smoothly and I have a computer that will handle it well. Then i'll wait til I [hopefully] find an unleaked VLK...

There is a lot of software that does not run on vista. We have that problem at work. Yet our purchasing ppl at work still cant understand they have to get laptops for sales staff with XPpro....

I think as time goes on, ppl will have no choice but to buy a PC with vista installed.

I got my computer today, and with it came windows Vista. First off, let me just say, Windows Vista is very much faster than XP while logging, opening programs, etc. It does have an appealing design, and it does look very cool especially with that one feature that can flip through the windows you have open, but mostly it is a Pain In The Neck! I sincerely wish I had stuck with Windows XP or even gotten the MAC OS. The first thing I noticed was the DENY OR ALLOW window pop up Every Single Time I wanted to open up a program, and I had to do lots of fixing up to the Firewall and Windows Security in General. The next thing I tried to do was to connect my Vista Laptop with my XP computer.... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! I stayed up hours upon hours trying to do everything to link those computers (Through wireless connections)! Talk about frustrating, and connecting a printer was beyond difficult. The network that I was on didnt even detect my other computer... The next thing is its "Backwards Capability" with Win. XP programs. Most of my games did not work on Vista, Morrowind for example, it is supposed to work with Vista, but yet, it doesnt! It will either give numerous errors, or just come out and say that "We cannot run this application" then morrowind closes. (there are some emulators that can make Morrowind run with Vista though). I also dont like the layout of the start menu. It is very hard to maneuver around the different programs with Vista, and also the button is a little small... It does come with some good games already installed on your computer though (Doesnt really matter) and it comes with Direct X10 which is state of the art right now. Vista also comes with a successor to Outlook Express called: Windows Mail; its basically the same thing except I had a hard time putting in my server settings without my other computer linked to this one... IE is much nicer with tabbed browsing and it is lots faster. The no. 1 thing I am worried about with Vista is like I said before, Backwards Capability - A very important issue....

Personally I will stick with XP for awhile . If need be,I'll take it to a local shop for an ungrade (video card,DVD-RW,etc.).

So i have vista and i cant play morrowind and i understand now that it isnt supported for vista but you said "(there are some emulators that can make Morrowind run with Vista though" where would i find this thing so i can play morrowind? and if you right click on morrowind and "run as administrator" then it works but not for very long. just an FYI.

The Poll asks "Are you going to buy Windows Vista" short answer NO. not when there are still so many driver incompatabilities. Even though i like my comp to be up to date. And it is. BUT at some time when i get bored with my comp (XP) I might download it. But im happy at the moment.

I have it now, it came with my new laptop. I deleted it straight away and put XP back on tho'.. XP runs like greased lightning on this laptop! I'll install vista when I next have to format the laptop probably (maybe a year or so)

That makes sense. but its a bit too much effort to put XP on then take it off in a year

I got 2 free versions as upgrades from when I bought my Laptop and Desktop and

they came in this past week and I installed it on my laptop first. After fighting

with it for a few days I've decided my next computer will definately be a Mac.

I've since restored my laptop back to XP until I retire it.

PS That UAC is awful and it runs slow and wasn't worth a pittence of what they want for it.

Have u tried looking on the web for directX9 to run with directX10 as ive been told that they will run side by side with each other.This information comes from a mate that has vista and is a gamer,but iwill say this u might struggle with vistas settings GOOD LUCK

Nope. First of all, ive heard not so great stuff about, and second, my computer is kinda....dead. I somehow managed to kill over half my RAM, so theres no way it would be able to handle Vista.

I voted for buying when Service Pack 1's released. Vista has major issues. I'm Just waiting until Vista's Bugs are all Done and Delt with.

I very neally downloaded it today but I didnt want to bother i haven't got any repair disc's for my current OS cause all files are on my hardrive so if it didnt install properly it could be difficult to remove or repair.

I used to have Windows 95 on a laptop, and it fit all my needs as a windows platform (gaming and education) at the time.

Then when I bought a new laptop, it came with XP Professional (free upgrade from XP Home). I downgraded to Windows 98, so that the disk space stays around 200MB rather than 2GB that XP required without any applications. I still had the XP license.

Then there was one game from Micosft that I bought that only ran under XP. So I was forced to re-install XP.

If it weren't for that game, I would have stayed with Windows 98. If the laptop didn't come with XP, I would probably not have bought that game, since I wouldn't shell out my money to buy XP just to run that game.

I don't foresee any software that I need that requires Vista anytime soon, unless I happen to buy a new laptop with Vista included in the price.

My laptop will stay XP forever, since it only runs game and education, and all the "serious" stuff is run from dual-booted linux.

BTW, do people actually pay $100-$300 to upgrade? I'd rather stick with what I already have, or buy a laptop that already comes with the OS when my old one dies. I can't imagine paying that much for the sake of upgrading.

Most of the problems you see with "Vista" is not actually the OS's fault, it's the driver vendors fault for making bad drivers or no drivers at all.

Running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Smooth and hell of a lot faster than XP on many different levels. The only thing is 64 bit, not many drivers or software works now. Luckily all my hardware supports 64 bit and the software I use, I have no problems. SP1 is in beta testing and should be released maybe the end of this year or next.

BTW, do people actually pay $100-$300 to upgrade? I'd rather stick with what I already have, or buy a laptop that already comes with the OS when my old one dies. I can't imagine paying that much for the sake of upgrading.

It really depends on what your upgrading for. If the business upgrades then you may have to upgrade to use the same software ETC. But it is a waste of time just for home use. I only use for home use and i cant be bothered to upgrade cause there really is no point for me too.

Well, I've finally gotten Vista! I just got a new laptop yesterday as an early Christmas present, and it had Vista packaged with it. It seems to work well with the antivirus software they installed for me -- Trend Micro. I've always used AVG, but the tech didn't recommend it, and the Trend Micro was included with some other software, so I figured, why not? I love the way Vista works. I've done everything from going on here (obviously) to watching DVD's, etc. It runs smoothly and it's easy to get around. My old laptop wouldn't run it, so I just had to get a new one. I'm looking to get it for my desktop next.

I'll eventually get Vista --- it's so dirt cheap here in Canada because not many have jumped onto the bandwagon. Many times I''ve been tempted to purchase my copy (it's going for under $100). Now that Sevice Pack 1 is on beta, I'll probably pick one up sometime next year. I may do a dual-boot on my computer; I'll wait to see what my best options are.

Now that MS have announced that they'll stop supporting XP, I've gotten a copy of Vista as did my brother. He installed it first. I'll eventually do when I get some time.

As some of you probably know, SP1 is officially available and there a breadth of updated software and hardware drivers; I personally don't foresee any problems (perhaps some, hopefully not) with hardware or software conflicts. I know for a fact that I can download updated drivers for my printer and whatnot.

I messed around with Vista and thus far, I'm liking it. It needs some getting use to of course. IMHO, you need at least a dual core to run things efficiently. My brother and I both have Quad Core CPUs so this isn't an issue for both of us. There have been complaints about this and that and quite frankly, I've found such and such comments to be untrue, in my own experience that is. I like the fact that you are able to back up your XP files and configurations and later put these back in after having installed Vista --- very nice touch!

I'll post more of my impressions of Vista particularly in the area of DX10 gaming titles and see what gives.

I've been using it for a few months now and like it more than XP. There are just two things annoying me.

1 - The imposed limit on TCP connections.. I used to use Win 2000 where you could have upwards of 65000 at the same time (well.. you never know when you might need them...!), in Vista there seems to be a limit of about 10. I often watch TV over the net using programs like Sopcast, that use a torrent protocol to send data. This limit of TCP connections really screws up those programs.. Now you can override this by using a custom TCP driver... BUT...

2. Vista SP1 forces you to only use drivers that are digitally signed by microsoft, so I can't use third party graphics card drivers anymore, and can't use a custom TCP driver. Although it is possible to make them work, you have to hold F8 ever time you boot the computer for them to work! grr

Anyway, I plan to keep using it.. the pros outweigh the cons.
