This film suffers from an identity crisis.

It doesn't know what it wants to be.

By the time it ends, you come away with the what was that I just watched feeling.

It's a shame that the directors of this, Joel and Ethan Coen aka Coen brothers, haven't had a great movie since the 1996 Academy Awards Best Picture and Best Director nominated classic film FARGO.

Oh we know! We'll do a Batman Vs. Superman movie even if both characters do not exist in the same DC comics universe: one is in Gotham City, one is in Metropolis.

Well, that's okay. People are so gullible they will pay $$$$ to watch any comic books live movie adaptation."

Now we will get 4 more movies with Aflack as Batman, so soon after Nolan's crappy Dark Knight trilogy.

Oh I am going to go throw up now.

Now even Kilmer and Clooney's turns as Batman beginning to look like an Oscar performance.

Every time I watch this I chuckle and how everyone in here from the politicians to the top General Brass down are either just a bunch of trigger happy warmongers or a bunch of inept morons and at all the dark comedy references.

The only person who had any sense is the British Royal Air Force Captain.

I don't think a movie like this one and also its cinematic companion piece, also from 1964, Fail-Safe http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058083/ can be made today with all the political correctness going around.

One of the best part of the movie in my opinion:

Ghostbusters 2016 Trailer #2

Still NOT any better than Trailer #1

 

This is not any better.

When I saw trailer #1, just the heavy metal music was out of place.

Guess Abrams and the new makers of Star Trek have forgotten the vision that guided Roddenberry and turned the Original Series into a legacy that inspired so many generations since: Live Long and Prosper

They have forgotten the Live Long part and are only interested in and Prosper

 

 

I want to see both of these regardless of the reviews. Can't be worse than Star Trek 5 imo.

Pandora (2016)

This was a good movie but very difficult to watch.

We as the human race have doomed this planet with our own selfishness and arrogance.

The earth's temperature is rising, the ice caps are melting, natural resources are dwindling and yet we keep reproducing at an alarming rate and there isn't enough to feed every person on this planet.

Most of the species of animals and insects that were on this planet a 1000 years ago are either near extinction or extinct due to the human race.

We sit here and call ourselves the Master Race of this planet and we revile the rats and roaches and other critters, but one day when the last human on earth ceases to breathe, those critters will still be around and who will be the Master then?

Furthermore, the day we opened the nuclear genie's bottle in 1945, we signed our own species' death warrant - it's not if a nuclear disaster/accident (or a nuclear device detonated either by terrorists or by war) will happen again that will wipe out the human race, it's when and it will be soon.

Don't let the Netflix throw you off. This movie was made in Korea and Netflix is only responsible for it's online streaming distribution. Netflix had nothing to do with the production and script and directing of it.

Shin Gojira (2016) aka Shin Godzilla aka Godzilla Resurgence

A scathing critical indictment of how the excessively bureaucratic Japanese government dropped the ball after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

Godzilla symbolizes both events.

This film illustrates how every member of the Japanese government from the lowest level assistant to the Prime Minister are all inept and more concerned about their titles and hierarchy positions.

The movie is almost 2 hours long shun credits and Godzilla appears for probably only 20 min but I do have to admit the special effects for it were pretty good.

The rest of the movie shows the Japanese bureaucrats holding meetings after meetings, conferences after conferences, think tanks after think tanks, secret behind the doors you scratch my back and I will scratch your back negotiations to gain a better political position, etc etc

This is not a monster disaster movie. This is a harsh political satire disguised as it.

After watching this, going back to revisit that crappy long forgotten Roland Emmerich Godzilla film with Ferris Bueller as a very unlikely, unconvincing Nuclear Regulatory Commission biologist is starting to look pretty good just about now.

The Founder (2016)

The story of how failed traveling milk shakes machines salesman Ray Kroc took Richard and Mac McDonald's "speedee" system burger restaurant and turned it into a world wide burger conglomerate.

Kroc was a thief. He broke his written contract with the MacDonald's brothers. The contract was for him to sell franchise locations and sign up new franchisee. Instead he started making changes to the way each franchise restaurant is operated, what ingredients to use, financial systems for each location, etc etc which was outside of his duties as stipulated in the contract he had with the MacDonald's brothers and furthermore, all changes to any restaurant need to be approved in writing by the McDonald's brothers.

Then when Kroc finally bought the McDonald's brothers out at $2.7 million, the original contract was that the brothers will also get 0.5% of all royalties from the profit of McDonald's corporation.

Kroc made them leave that out of the written buyout contract saying his investors who are loaning him the $2.7 million will not approve but he guaranteed the McDonald's brothers he will make good on it.

He even shook hands with the brothers but he never paid a penny of it which to this day will be $100 million a year.

Kroc didn't make money from McDonald's franchisees selling burger and fries and milkshakes. He made money by buying the land to build McDonald's on it and then by owning the building for each restaurant location and leasing it back to the franchisee along with the franchise fees and the % of their food sales profit.

McDonald's Corporation is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, owner of real estate properties in the world. That's how they make money! By being a landlord!

Kroc made so much money that after he passed away in 1984, he left the entire empire to his 3rd wife Joan and when she passed away in 2003, she donated most of it to Salvation Army, the NPR and other charities at the tune of almost $2 billion.

This movie was very good. He did all this when he was was in his late forties or early fifties too. It's never too late.

We all know who Arnold Schwarzenegger is and probably half of the world's population has at one time or another seen at least one of his action film.

He is great as an action hero and he has also proven himself worthy as a comedian in movies like Twins and Kindergarden Cop and Junior.

But just like everyone else's, time will catch up on you and Arnold is getting old: he will be 70 in 3 months.

So his days of playing the action hero that saves the day and the world are almost over and to keep his movie career going and his star from fading, he is branching out into dramatic roles.

He did it with the recent Zombie movie Maggie and now he is doing again with this airline disaster drama Aftermath, based on the person https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitaly_Kaloyev who committed murder after losing his family in this disaster https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Cberlingen_mid-air_collision

Well it just doesn't work! Sorry Arnold.

There is nothing wrong with this movie. Arnold is just not right for the main role.

It's like watching an old man at a nursing home fumbling around not sure what to do with his day. Furthermore, it's eerie to see Arnold looking so old both in appearance and in his mannerism.

Maybe in time Arnold will become a good dramatic actor like Clint Eastwood did after he stopped playing action heroes.

Who knows?

Arnold may even become an Academy Award winning director like Eastwood; but until then, I'd rather take my chances on his upcoming Conan movie and 1988 Twins sequel.

A Cure for Wellness (2016)

In recent years, there has been so many movies that are clocking in between 1 hour and 10 min to barely 1 hour and 25 min, rolling ending credits inclusive. Most of the time these "shortened" movies suffer from poor plot, lousy editing and they are just no good. We all have seen these films and as we walk out of the theater, we felt we were robbed of our movie ticket money and our precious time.

Here we have a psychotic horror thriller movie with a good premise: a young up and coming corporate executive is sent to a wellness spa to retrieve his CEO where he will soon discovers nothing at the spa is what it seems.

This movie started out well and it could had worked if it clocked in at just under 2 hours with better editing, a faster pacing, and a smoother story line but alas, it wasn't to be.

Gore Verbinski who started his directing career so well with movies like The Mexican, The Ring and Mousehunt and then lost his way rehashing the same Pirates of the Caribbeans movies over and over decided to over inflate this movie at 2 hours and 26 min.

Long, long before this movie was even 2/3 over, you had already stop caring about the character and you didn't care for the plot twist and the big reveal that just took too long to appear.

Not sure what Verbinski was aiming for with this film or what his motivation was but one thing is for sure, he took a total career mistep by bungling up what could had been one of the best psychological thriller in year. Maybe he is looking for redemption after getting his career stuck on a dead end one way "Pirates of the Caribbean" track? Who knows! But he didn't get redemption here.

Countless times during my viewing of this over long and tedious movie where I felt like the poor folks who were stuck listening to Ted Striker telling his war stories:

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

It was alright but nothing to write home about.

Most of the characters in the film are just there to become food.

Then you have 2 female characters, a photographer and a scientist who don't do much.

One is constantly taking photos when she should be running real fast for her life.

The other one doesn't do much scientist stuff, pretty much just mope around and every now and then she is given a one line dialogue.

She is played by a Chinese actress and this film being one of the many recent Chinese financed Hollywood productions, she was most likely put in there as part of the deal of getting production money from Chinese investors.

Supposedly this film will tie in with 2 more future King Kong films.

No idea what were the intentions of this whitewashed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitewashing_in_film) version of the popular Japanese Manga comic series and animated film.

Whatever their intentions were, I can assure they were not honorable!

I have nothing against Scarlett but this is one movie she should not had agreed to be in.

The main character should had been played by a Japanese actress or at the very minimum by an Asian actress.

Scientists are going to be the ones who will doom the human race with their stupidity like the ones in this movie on the ISS.

Sure many of them do important life saving research and work but some of them are just idiots who shouldn't be allowed to play Gods.

They come across an alien life in the form of an amoeba so to speak and what they do?

Oh all the tests shows it's not made of any kind of cellular composition we've ever seen and encoutered on Earth but let's name it and play with it.

If you find a container with a liquid and the container is unlabeled, will you stick your finger in it or even get the tip of your finger wet with it and then bring it up to your mouth to taste it?

Same if you see a land animal or sea creature you have never encountered in your life before, will you extend your hand and finger to touch it so it may bite it off?

No you don't!

But the scientist in this movie just sticks his hand into this amoeba which has been for unexplained scientific reasons growing exponentially daily.

Well you can imagine the rest of the movie. We seen this premise before haven't we? In other sci fi films and horror films.

There is a reason why there is an idiom that says:

"Curiousity Killed the Cat!"

Sometimes it makes me wonder how many of the uncurable diseases that are afflicting mankind today were the results of stupid scientists tinkling with things they don't understand.

I have heard stories that AIDS and HIV is one of them and it was created during the Vietnam War by the CIA looking for a biological weapon to wipe out the North Vietnamese by weakening their immune system after the CIA previous effort with Agent Orange to wipe out their natural growing food supply wasn't working quick enough.

I am not too familiar with Japanese and Asian actresses except for a few that have made their name in Hollywood who I think are not right for the role.

The original Ghost In The Shell Manga and then animated TV series and movies, all made in Japan, featured Major Motoko Kusanagi as the main character and in the movie they decided to

reverse it and said that Major Motoko Kusanagi brain was implanted on a White person body hence why the person looks like Scarlett Johansson.

Total insult to the Japanese and to a great piece of work.

I've just read they had 2 sequels planned for Terminator Genisys but because the movie flopped at the box office, it's now cancelled. James Cameron will be rebooting the entire franchise after he regains movie rights in 2019 and he will discard Genisys completely; he will continue from after the events of T2 and Emilia Clarke, the actress with no talent, no charisma, no screen presence that played Sarah Connor in Genisys will not be in it, Thank God!

Cameron should never had sold the movie rights to the Terminator franchise after T2.

Terminator made him famous and wealthy and he sold it to losers that didn't respect the story and Cameron.
