The game has been cancelled by Core Design, but not by Crystal Dynamics.

It will be made by CD for PSP, PC, and PS2 (details will be posted on ps2.ign.com).

Why cancelled by Core Design?

That kinda doesn't make any sense... Oh well just as long as we get the game!

It wasn't cancelled by Core, it was cancelled by Eidos. Eidos have now sold off the assets of Core Design, but they are keeping the rights to the name of Core. So the old company of Core Design is now part of Rebellion (and is being renamed Rebellion Derby or something like that).

Woah! that link says that TR2 is being remade too. That's made my day!

While it still takes the line that Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider II are being put into the remake, the tone at the end indicates to me that the Core trailer looked very good compared to whatever Crystal Dynamics has put together.

I know this isn't necessarily reliable information, but I really hope that Eidos aren't going to rush out an inferior game to make a quick buck. I don't mind if they release it long after Tomb Raider's anniversary date, as long as it's complete and a quality game. I certainly don't want another Angel of Darkness fiasco just after it looks like the TR franchise is back on track.

Aye well said, it would be a real shame to blow this opportunity. I was just thinking earlier, how it will be a time consuming process to move the old TRs to the new engine and still make them play well. A lot of the challenge in the first 2 games is difficult jumps, and TR Legend makes every jump easy because Lara always grabs the edge if you're anywhere near, and the game is very forgiving to mistimed jumps. Think of the Temple of Xian, near the end, where you have to climb up those ladders snd backflip+roll in the air to grab other ladders and dodge blades. It'd be much easier in the legend engine, which would suck. I just hope they put some care into this kind of thing and find a way to make it as challenging as it used to be.

Otherwise... wow I can't wait to see what it looks like. The Opera House was impressive enough in those old graphics, I'm dying to see* how it would look in modern graphics.

Well the game has been reported for a 2007 release date (of course speculation is going that they'll release it around 14th February for a double celebration and you know what I'm talking about) by Eidos' Ian Livingstone.

This sounds, to me, like they are using parts of 1 & 2 in "one" remake, not 2 remakes.

Ya'll aren't the only ones excited about this anniversary edition. I still want to see TR 1 remade as well. To see levels like St. Francis' Folly. The Cistern, Colosseum, and my favorite level The Great Pyramid redone. Imagine how those creatures will look in that level, and the walls and floor of the place.

That would be sweet to see what the graphics look like in TR1 & 2....but like Raek said I wonder if they could make the jumps like on the old engine....

I confused, are the first two games going to the same exact thing just with better graphics on the PS2 or PS3, or are they going to be different games with the same concepts. (ie: natla in TR I, dagger in TRII)

As noone truly know except those at Eidos or Crystal Dynamics we can only speculate as to what it is going to be. The most likely thing is a remake of TRI and possibly II, so basically if it is that it'll be TRI (and II) with better graphics and possibly some extra areas. The other rumour is that it will be a collection of the most popular levels from the first five games given a graphical update with possible new areas.

same here there's alot I'd like to see and play from the first few. And to think Tigers and T-rex's, to dogs that looked to have rabies were bad enough in my experience, LOL, just kidding.
