The Rant Thread

Featured Replies

I got to get this off my chest, so bear with me ya'll.

Those of you that know me, you know where i work at by now. Today just wasn't the best of days. Opening this morning we had someone that had not opened the store that often, she goes to the walk in cooler and i'm trying to tell her "You have to start with stocking the flour tortillas first. " and she says to me "David (my boss) told me to set up cold line." I didn't say anything after that, i had too much to do. By the time it was close to opening (10am) no tortillas were set up, i had to put them on the line, taco shells, nachos and so on. This being after i had already set up both of the hot lines. I didn't say a whole lot most of the day, i just wanted to work and get my shift over and go home. We were a bit short handed too and i was asked to stay over an hour past my off time (5pm), which i did. But what really set me off was the next manager that came in, i had already worked over. Crystal (closing manager) was in the office and there were 3 cashiers crowded in there when two of them should not of been in there and she was sitting in there just taking her time. I went to clock out and came back and said "Bye i'm leaving." and she says "You can't just leave like that, i haven't done the deployment chart and i don't know who is leaving or coming in. Not good at all.". She gets all loud saying that at me. She took my spot on the drive thru line, where i had been all day long, I walked out the door, got in my car and went home.

Getting real tired of the attitude, i need a week off from that place. I'm about to put my vacation time in, and in that time go look for another job or two and get myself out of there.

I'm done now thanks for taking the time to read my rant

I would report Crystal and those 3 cashiers to David - to let them know they weren't doing what they were supposed to do and you had already worked 1 hour over and it's not your responsibility to carry everyone!

Exactly what James said - especially Crystal, sounds like she won't do anything until she has to, then acts like you've stuffed her around. You don't have to put up with that kind of attitude from anyone, especially in a working environment.

Typical corporate America:

those who do no work are the ones that get recognized.

those who do all the work don't get recognized and they are the ones that get blamed when something goes wrong.

That kind of thing and attitude is not allowed at my stores.

Everyone do what they are supposed to do as individuals and as a team;

everyone helps each other.

My business partner and I don't tolerate butt kissing, brown nosing, favoritism, bickering, complaining.

We treat all the employees as if they are our family and we expect them to do the same with each other and with me.

Before I had my own business, I worked for people from retail to movie theaters to real estate to janitorial to convenience store to being a Police Officer.

I was mistreated on several occasions by some of my former employers and I didn't do anything to deserve it nor did I do anything wrong;

I'd always told myself if one day I had my own business, I will not treat my employees the same way.

In almost 20 years of being in retail, I can count on both hands the total numbers of employees I have terminated and it's a very small number.

Those who do no work are the ones that get recognized.

Those who do all the work don't get recognized and they are the ones that get blamed when something goes wrong.

This is exactly what I've had happen to me, I receive a benefit for studying and job searching, without fail I do what I have to do and report, but if one time something is wrong, it messes everything up. Yet I have been waiting in line and all I hear is people talking about how they can't wait to get their next drink and make a bet, or play the slots. Slackers usually get their own way unfortunately.

We bought some Ham and Turkey cold cuts the other day from the Deli of our grocery store;

that's where the cold cuts are sliced in front of you and not already packaged.

Now a slice of Ham and Turkey should be a slice, right?

When you open the ziplog bag and you want to take a slice out to put on your bread, it's supposed to separate easily and be an entire slice, am I correct?

Unless things have changed recently and I missed out on some new trend; that's my experience and understanding that's how it has always been!

The Ham and Turkey slices in these 2 bags were all lumped together into a big mess. I can't tell where the edge of one slice begins and ends and where the next slice begins.

When I tried to separate a slice, it's tangled up with the other slices and instead of getting one slice, you get this big mess of SHREDDED Ham and Turkey.

The Deli used to have an old man and an old woman doing the slicing; every slice the same thickness and laid out carefully on top of the previous slice.

They even take the first couple of slices and show it to you to make sure it's the right thickness that you want and let you keep those slices as free tasting samples.

Now there are 2 young white males and a young black male and black female working there.

You tell them what you want and they just start slicing.

You tell them how thick you want it sliced and they pretty much don't hear what you are saying.

They don't show you how thick the slices are and you don't get any samples.

I have to asked them a few times: how thick are you slicing it? Let me see?

They just hold up a slice and you are 10 feet away from them because they are behind the counter; you can't see it!

One time they tried to slice salami the thickness of pepperoni.

Each slice was like 1/4 inch thick!

They are also busy talking and chatting among themselves at the same time they are slicing the meat.

Tomorrow I am taking both packages of Ham and Turkey back and I will demand a full refund.

I will also tell them this is unacceptable and that their deli employees need to be retrained;

I will also challenge the manager to see if she or he can separate a slice from the pack without shredding it.

Most people nowadays DON'T want to be bothered to do a GOOD JOB anymore!

They just want to COLLECT a Paycheck!

Slicing Ham is NOT rocket science!

A monkey can do a better job than these idiots at SAFEWAY RANDALL'S/TOM THUMB FLAGSHIP Store can!

FLAGSHIP Store!

That's a Laugh!

It's only FLAGSHIP by name!

RANDALL'S/TOM THUMB used to be a good store, family owned and then SAFEWAY bought them out!

Oh!

I am also going to go to Central Market down the street first.

They slice everything the way it's supposed to be sliced and even put wax paper in between each slice of cold cuts and cheese.

I am going to get the same amount of ham and turkey (1 lbs each) from Central Market, take it to RANDALLS and tell them:

This is how it's done!

I never worked in a Deli but even I can show them how to do it.

I grew up in Italy.

Mamma would send me to the Deli underneath our apartment building to buy prosciutto and asiago and mortadella and I was only 5-6 years old.

I missed the old man and old woman.

Not only they did a good job, they remembered your name and what you usually get and how you like it sliced, EVERY TIME!

They even spent the time to chit chat with you and ask you about your family and so on!

The old man and old woman probably got let go so Safeway can hire these young morons and give them less pay and no benefits!

p.s. this is the same store I had a previous problem at as I've mentioned in a previous post:

http://www.laracroftonline.net/index.php?showtopic=1921&st=180#entry44100

It's only 1 mile from our house and it's convenient but I am tired of the place;

every other week it's something!

Emailing Safeway and you don't get a response!

I went to the store, I asked for the Deli Manager and Store Manager.

When they came up to the Customer Service counter, I took the cold cuts out of the ziploc bag and I showed it to them.

Then I asked them without telling them what I thought is wrong: do you see anything wrong with these?

They immediately saw what was wrong and apologize and gave me DOUBLE my money back.

Then the Deli Manager, a nice polite lady, took me to the Deli and I got 1 lb of Turkey, 1 lb of Ham and 1 lb of Salami sliced correctly (Sandwich slices) and at no charge to me!

She did ask me who sliced the messy cold cuts for me and I did tell her.

Is it just me or does everyone has an attitude nowadays?

Do you sometime get the felling people just don't want to be bothered with you and you've done nothing to them to deserve it?

I emailed my sister to ask her something about Chicago because she travels there a lot.

Her response is: "Dude, I haven't been to Chicago since 2007!"

I am not a Dude! I am her brother!

Is it just me or does everyone has an attitude nowadays?

Nope its not just you, i've noticed it as well. I hardly talk when i am at work nowadays, and when i have to speak up to be heard I'm being told to "Calm down." or something else. Can't even joke around without someone getting all steamed.

I don't speak to my boss most of the time, hes got so much to deal with everyday. There's really only one manager i will talk to, its not Crystal, and she'll at least listen to what i have to say.

Yeah i'm tired of it too. Even if i do end up in another fast food place, new people to work with and i can learn new things.

The email I sent to my sister was very simple:

"Hi Sis.

You travel to Chicago quite a bit.

Can you recommend a good German restaurant near Lincoln Square?

Thanks"

ARRRRGHHHHH!! Fitted Sheets!! More like RETARDED Sheets!!

You NEED a PhD to figure these damn things out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who came up with this crap?

I wanna know who came up with the idea of only having the elastic in the corners. What ever happened to putting the elastic all the way around!? It worked!

I wanna know who came up with the idea of only having the elastic in the corners. What ever happened to putting the elastic all the way around!? It worked!

Maybe its to do with the fact that the elastic would eventually wear down with all the washing and drying.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got something else to put here.

Just wanted to say that its gotten a bit better where i work at. If you all recall the previous post i made, I don't work with Crystal that much. She mostly works late night now, and i'm not even there when she comes in.

So that's it really no rant here.

True. I find them hard to get now. They just seem to fit better, lol.

Great to hear your work environment has improved! Have you found any other jobs that you'd like to apply for?

I'm actually waiting to hear back about a job interview I had, they told me within 2 weeks I'd know...it's been exactly one week now. I won't get my hopes up though, lol.

I miss the days when sheets were just sheets, not fitted.

It was so simple.

Kratos: I am glad things are better for you at work.

You been there so many years, the company should recognize that and treat you better and be more open to listening to you when you have a complaint and concern.

Morph: I hope you get that job.

Don't forget to call back at least a couple of times a week to follow up.

Let them know you are interested.

from GOOGLE:

For every retail job available, there are probably at least 100 applications a week. To actually get the job, you have to show you really want it. Call back at least once every couple of days to check to see if they've processed your application, and where you are in the process. Don't call every day. It's annoying, and they'll file 13 your application for that. Be pleasant and professional when you call. Identify yourself and ask politely if they can check on the status of your application, and leave it at that. Don't ask a lot of pointless questions they don't know the answer to, such as when they think the manager will be looking at it. Learn the HR person's (if there is one) name by heart, and ask how she/he is doing today first. If they are not available, leave a message, but don't call back that day. They'll get the message, but if they have nothing to tell you, they won't call back. Remember the three P's, Persistent, Polite, and Professional. Never forget to thank them for their time and tell them you hope they have a nice day. Little things count. Make yourself memorable to them for the right reasons.

the above advice also can be used to follow up after you had an interview.

;)

Thank You James! :)

I actually asked about doing a follow-up call while I was at the employment agency earlier.

They said I should wait the two weeks, then if I don't hear anything, do a follow-up call.

I thought it would be better to call sometime this week and ask how it's all doing, just to show I'm still interested.

In your previous post you mentioned it's been 1 week since you applied?

I would make a follow up call to the store/employer and follow the rules regarding follow up calls I sent you in PM.

I wouldn't wait 2 weeks.

Strange that the employment agency told you 2 weeks.

I thought it was strange too, lol. Thanks again, James. :)

Now Safeway is calling me like crazy after I have filed a complaint under Deceptive Trade and Practices, False Advertising and Bait and Switch with the BBB and the TX Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office.

They want to offer a resolution.

I will give it a day or so before calling them back. Let them sweat a bit!

We went to get steaks last Friday that were on sale for $5 a lb.

The Ad only said Extreme Value pack, NY Strip Steaks.

It didn't specify what kind of cut it was (thick cut or thick cut, etc) and when we picked up a pack to buy, it was $1 more per lbs because it was "Thin Cut".

The 2 butchers on duty had no idea why it was $1 more per lb.

Speaking with the Store Assistant Manager, he gave me this whole BS story about how there is more labor for the butcher to cut the meat thinner.

So I asked him, doesn't the butcher gets paid the same amount of money for a work week, whether he is cutting steaks thin or thick or cutting 100 lbs of meat a week or 1 lbs of meat per week?

Are you passing the labor costs to the consumer?

When the weather is 105+ during the summer, do you charge the customer extra because your employees have to go out and collect shopping carts in the heat?

The whole thing didn't make any sense to me.

They didn't want to take care of business and shrugged me off so I filed a complaint with the BBB and the TX Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office.

Part of a Fair Trading Act is that all ticketing and prices must be correct and truthful, and if a mistake is found it needs to be corrected. How hard is it to alter a price for a mistake they've made? Sounds a bit silly.

I'd even show that Assistant Manager the ad.

A copy we picked up there at the store at the entrance so there was no "you brought that from somewhere else and you altered it".

He wasn't convinced.

He said even if it didn't specify in the ad the cut of the meat and that thin cut costs $1 more per lb, the store was within their rights to do so.

So when I left, I told him I was going to call the BBB and the Attorney General office.

He kind of looked at me like "you are stupid" and said: "you do that" mockingly like he was thinking, let's see how far you will get.

Well, who is stupid now?

Who is laughing now?

This is the same store that started selling Rancher's Reserve USDA Prime Beef 3 years ago and they would advertise T-Bone or NY Strip or Rib Eye, etc etc, different kind of steaks, for $3 or $4 a lbs.

But then you go to the store to buy per say just one or two steaks at the sale price, the price for those one or two steaks is not the sale price.

They will tell you to get the sales price, you have to buy the Extreme value pack with 6-8 steaks in it.

I am the one who complained about that to Safeway and the BBB and the Texas Attorney General Office several times and after that, Safeway started putting in their printed advertisement that the sales price is for Extreme value packs only.

We shop there because the other stores here are Kroger

(bad meat and produce, never buy their meat and produce; the store is good to buy store brand names staple basic products like Kroger brand bread and canned goods, the quality is the same as the more expensive national brands),

Wal Mart (we only buy household items there),

Sprout's (good for produce and fruits)

and then Safeway Randall's

(best place to buy Meat along with Central Market which is far from us - and we only go to Central Market either on the weekend when there is less traffic on the freeway or on my way home from work I pick up a few things there)

Edited by J7Dadda

How'd you go James?

Well, I've missed out on another job *sigh*

Got an email earlier saying the usual "thank you for your interest, blah blah, etc".

And after I went down to the store and asked about the job, instead of just making a phone call.

  • 4 weeks later...

I was talking to Bank of America about my account and the manager got abusive and loud and rude with me and then he hung up. When I tried to call back and I pressed 4 to get a 'live' person, it would connect, ring 1-2x and then disconnects me. I think they have a way of putting my phone number into the system so it doesn't accept calls. Therefore, I am going there with the Police!

We should never have bailed those people out! The biggest criminal organization and racketeering criminals in the world! Bigger than the Mafia and the Mob and the Yakuza, etc etc,

I closed my accounts with BoA. They were trying to tell me they will have to hold my funds and transfers to another bank. I told them that's BS! When you owe them money, they can take it from your account in a nanosecond; but when they owe you money, it gets tied up in red tape for days, weeks, months and in some cases even years! I told them if they held my funds or held my transfers to another bank or if they ZOMBIE my accounts or if they put me on a blacklist, I will come back with a court ordered judgement, a writ of execution, armed Constables, a moving truck, news cameras, and I will seize everything in the branch building that's not bolted down, including the cash in their vault and tellers' cash drawers and pad lock their building, as collateral until I get the money that belongs to me. So they backed down! They know I can do that! You can do it to anyone who owes you money by filing a lien and judgement in court on their property even if they never agreed to use that property as collateral against the money they'd borrowed from you. It's been done to Bank of America before in 2011 by a couple who owned a home they paid in cash that never had a Bank of America mortgage on it and BoA foreclosed them; GOOGLE it and you will find it.
