Well, thanks everyone, I feel justified. @AngelR: That's exactly how we do it -- if the phone gets to the 2nd or 3rd ring the person in the back room should realize the front counter is busy, and answer the phone. We're allowed to surf the internet briefly, but not if there's tons of work to do. In this case, I went back there, and there were things to be straightened up, calls to be made to people who requested items, etc. And there's always shelves to "read" (making sure each book is aligned in Numerical & Alphabetical order). I consider a break to be just 15 min. -- you don't take little breaks throughout a 4-hour period. @Shrensh: Lol @ the deer-in-headlights look -- I know what you mean! I walked her through how to answer & told her she can come get me if it's a question she doesn't know the answer to. So, I'm liking your whole "beating" idea. @J7: Amazing how someone can sit right next to the phone and appear to not even hear it ring. Maybe they're tone deaf!

Hate to move up such an old topic, but I am seriously needing to rant today. I've been training these new people at work (I work in a library, for those who don't know). And my main frustration is this: why can't people answer the phone when it rings?? I'm not talking about when you're busy, but when you're just sitting or standing there next to the phone, and your co-worker(s) busy, is it so hard? We sort of have an unspoken rule that the phone should be answered by the third ring. My question is, is this an uncommon practice? Because I'm wondering if these new people are just not used to answering it so quickly. I explained that it should be answered by the third ring. I keep having to interrupt the person I'm helping to answer the phone, while these trainees just sit at the desk next to their phone and let it ring!! Grr. Anyway, if I'm just expecting too much, I'd like to know. Otherwise, I'm going to tell them that it's unacceptable to wait that long, especially when they're just surfing the 'net for personal reasons, or reading through magazines. Maybe I'm being too nice, and need to make things a little clearer. Oh, and our answering system comes on by the 4th or 5th ring, btw.

Thanks for the price breakdown, BP. I was ready to ask if it's worth it, then I saw your post. Guess we'll buy the Orange Box since it's such a great savings! We already have Halflife 2 & Ep. 1, but the rest of the contents are well worth it, given the price difference. I'll let you know what we think! I may actually play through this one, instead of watching most of the time while my husband plays, lol.

Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh & Brendan Fraser in one movie? I'm definitely going to see it. Although I enjoy some of the cheesy moments from Brendan in the first Mummy movie, I hope they don't overdo it. Not sure about the combination of Jet Li and Brendan Fraser, but Li & Yeoh together should be good.

I don't have a Wii. The games I've bought for my GameCube haven't interested me that much, and I always end up going back to the Playstation. The better graphics and cool controller/remote are great, but since I already have TRA for the PS2, I'll wait to buy the Wii.
