  1. When you go to play the levels again, start playing, then press start and go to the options menu. Somewhere in there, there's an option for 'Show commentary markers', which is turned off by default. They should appear (There's just a few on each level).. they look a bit like save crystals. There is one right at the start of the first level so it's a good place to do it.
  2. Tsk tsk. That is a naughty thing to do but don't worry, it's not your fault.. it's nasty Steven Speilberg's fault! I can relate to your problem too... after watching Doctor Who a while back I enslaved the human race and turned them all into giant silver robots called cyberpeople the very next day (Being the p.c., forward-thinking person that I am, cybermen just didn't seem right). But that's the BBC's fault for showing it before my 9pm bedtime.
  3. Really Shrensh? They've cut that bit out of the DVD? That is ridiculous! They showed the film on ITV about 5 years ago and they left that bit in!! So is it ok for us to see it or not BBFC?? I absolutely agree anyhow.. it's quite ridiculous that they feel the need to tell other adults what they are allowed to see and what they aren't. Time will prove this to be a stupid decision anyway (as with every banned film that gets unbanned and turns out to be more tame than current films) Bloody nanny state....
  4. Listening to Toby Gard (in the Peru commentary of TRA) talking about how he didn't want to have Lara killing people reminded me of an issue that has bothered me in the past.. I will happily blast bad guys but I never felt totally comfortable with blasting innocent people. Not that i have a moral objection to blowing up anyone pixelated, innocent or not (I'll happily do it in GTA for instance), - but I don't feel that it matches the character of Lara. There are a few instances I can think of, for example - - Killing security guards in the Louvre and in Le Serpent Rouge (AOD) - Killing Military Police in Area 51 (TR3) - Wiping out the south pacific tribe (TR3) - Killing russian soldiers (? Haven't played TR 5 for a long time so maybe I'm wrong) (TR5) Now it's true that all these people are programmed to attack and kill Lara, but that's just daft. The Military police would all be innocent people doing there jobs. Would Lara really kill 'em? It's the same situation as with the Louvre security guards, sneaking up on them and breaking their neck. What the hell is that all about? She's meant to be on the run from the police because she's wrongly accused of murder.. except by the time you reach the hall of seasons she's guilty on at least 3 counts of 2nd degree murder. Maybe a better option for these situations would be that rather than attacking Lara, the 'innocent' enemies try to catch/arrest here. This could be considered the same as death and you reload and try again. TR2 got this right... All the bad guys you kill are working for Bartolli. You have the option to kill innocent monks if you like.. but you pay for it. I'm glad this topic was considered in TR:A. Lara is reluctant to kill Larson and only does so because she weighs up the costs. That didn't bother me anyway because despite what he says, he's working for Natla, so not innocent (in my book anyway!), but I'm glad it was considered. Those cutscenes really develop Lara's personality. I hope this character development continues and she's not just a cold blooded killer in future games. Thankfully Toby Gard appears to care a lot about the character of Lara which is reassuring.. Anyway.. What do yous think? Do you agree it's a problem or has it never bothered you? Can you think of any more occasions?
  5. Aye.. it was banned in a wave of media hysteria after a teenager killed another teenager and the game's name came up. Of course.. it later emerged that in fact, it was the lad who got killed that played the game obsessively, not the murderer. And that the murder was drug-related. But of course.. the media wanted the game banned anyway I think it's since been unbanned... but I never played that anyway because I heard it was rubbish. This new one however, sounds ace.
  6. The BBFC has rejected Manhunt 2 on PS2 and Wii, the ratings board has revealed, meaning that the sequel "cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK". We've called Rockstar several times but have yet been unable to contact anyone. According to the BBFC, the decision to refuse the game a rating was taken by the Director and the Presidential Team of Sir Quentin Thomas, Lord Taylor of Warwick and Janet Lewis-Jones. Under the terms of the Video Recordings Act, distributors have the right to appeal the Board's decision. David Cooke, Director of the BBFC said: "Rejecting a work is a very serious action and one which we do not take lightly. Where possible we try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material which contravenes the Board's published Guidelines. In the case of Manhunt 2 this has not been possible. Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game. "Although the difference should not be exaggerated the fact of the game's unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying and the sheer lack of alternative pleasures on offer to the gamer, together with the different overall narrative context, contribute towards differentiating this submission from the original Manhunt game. That work was classified '18' in 2003, before the BBFC's recent games research had been undertaken, but was already at the very top end of what the Board judged to be acceptable at that category. "Against this background, the Board's carefully considered view is that to issue a certificate to Manhunt 2, on either platform, would involve a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors, within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and accordingly that its availability, even if statutorily confined to adults, would be unacceptable to the public." Check back for updates this afternoon but be sure to join the debate below. Update: NGamer magazine has reviewed the Wii version, giving it 92%. Hit this link to read exclusive excerpts. Update out http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=166215So Would never have tried this game until I read that... Now I'm all curious. This decisions sounds daft to me. Banning films and games never does anything apart from generate publicity. The game has been getting really high review scores. It's bound to leak out.. I presume it's out in other countries? Anyone played t? anyone played the original?
  7. Agreed Tom.. There's something satisfying about owning the DVD. Although I am slowly getting used to things since I started buying things on Steam (I didn't buy TRA through Steam tho). Also.. Breaking new ground my arse! Nice try MS... Nintendo was doing this 13 years ago with Zelda on the Super Famicom!
  8. Cool, I'll read up on them! Thanks!

  10. Should be straight forward enough! I've always kept a kind of mental ranking of my favourite TR games in order. TRA has sneaked in quite high! 1. TR2 2. TRA 3. TR4 4. TR1 5. TRL 6. TR3 7. TR5 8. TR:AOD How about yous?
  11. Worst game ever? That is a bold statement!! Did you play legend? Are you playing on the PC? Did you try using a controller? The controls can be difficult to get used to but if you do manage it really is a good game
  12. Yeah I enjoyed Halo Co-op. (although I thought Halo 2 was kak!) But for some bizarre reason they cut it out of the PC version... those crazy fools!
  13. Well, without going deeply into the issues that have already been discussed (i figured we could start some more threads on some of the discussion points... please feel free to start them if you'd like to discuss some of the things mentioned in more depth like the controls, wall running, etc), I really enjoyed that game in general. I thought it was excellently made, the balance between keeping old elements and adapting them to the new engine was done perfectly, and if I was a reviewer I'd give it 8.5/10. It is now my second favourite TR game. Great job CD Long live Tomb Raider!
  14. Finished!! Although it's always bittersweet.. I was enjoying it
  15. I wouldn't really say that's a new concept in games... I agree with what you say about Obelisk of Khamoon tho'... That level is well hard.. and to get all the artifacts on that level is an infuriating task. It is the only level in the game where I've gotten so frustrated that I stopped playing for a couple of days.
  16. Have you had any problems with any other games? It's hard to know where the problem's coming from but like Phantom said.. the fact that you need to leave the PS2 off for a while each time makes it sounds suspiciously like a hardware problem. Only other thing I can think of trying is swapping the CD at the shop you bought it but I'm not confident that it'd help much to be honest.. Hopefully cleaning out the PS2 works!
  17. Tis a good point.. I think the combat system (adrenaline dodge aside) could do with some work. I guess the adrenaline dodge was their way to make it better but the whole thing feels very fake. Some physics when you shoot things might help (I.e. if you shoot something in the leg, you see its react specifically to that). Maybe a bit more blood too (with the option to disable it for people who aren't quite as gory!). Oh and some half-decent AI would be nice but I'm going off on a tangent...
  18. So most of us have experienced the game a bit now.. what do we think of this new addition? Does it mark combat more exciting or does it drive you up the wall? Or maybe you're undecided? NB - it's worth at least waiting until you've completed 'the lost valley' level to form an opinion on this for reasons that will become apparant! I am still not totally sure myself. I absolutely hated it until I got the hang of it. Now I don't mind it so much, but I dislike the way bosses requires it's use at some point. It seems a bit silly in some ways. Also, i feel it could put some people off the game. For example - my dad has played every TR game on the PC. He hasn't played this one yet, but I know he'd hate this new jump. He uses the keyboard and he's not that fast with it, so these quick manouvers aren't his cup of tea, and he'd never consider using a controller. Overall, I am ok with them leaving it in the game, but I don't think they should make it a compulsory move for killing any bosses. You should be able to play the game without using it if it suits you imo (even if it makes the game harder) Thoughts?
  19. I've done the fat monster in atlantis now.. Just got Natla to do now! I didn't quite fancy facing her yet so I went back to the first level to get an artifact that i'd missed.. playing in the 'classic' outfit.. groovy! Really enjoyed it (although the bosses are a
  20. One thing I've disocvered is, if you get all the artifacts and relics, and then quit out before the end of the level, it will have unlocked the new things already. Then when you carry on playing and get to the end of the level, the 'unlocks' box will be blank because the things are already unlocked. I'm pretty sure this is what happens, anyhow. In a few places I've come across a bug where you can fall through the walls and fall out of the level into 'nothingness'.. she just keeps falling forever. I saw it happen to panther too in the Tomb of Theocan. Has anyone else had that?
  21. Yeah that was a brilliant idea they had I just played the first level through again with that selected. It takes me back! Funny the way they add some sunglasses to it too on the first level. I also just unlocked the wetsuit from the maria doria levels of TR2.. another classic!
  22. Hey RC, great to see you back again! A bartender eh? Drinks are on you!!! Well done on passing your driving test Welcome back everyone! The good thing about us having regular new TR games again is that it brings everyone out the woodwork!
  23. I'm afraid the only built-in cheats have to be unlocked by completing the game (which seems to render them useless but.. there ya go..) If you play on the PC you could use a trainer program tho' (a program that adds in cheats). Let me know if you do and i'll sort you with one
  24. Press 'start' (Esc on the PC) and go to level statistics You can find out how many artifacts there are on each level and how many you have
