SCi hurting for money; Tomb Raider's future is up in the air
Full Article (IGN) UK, January 15, 2008 - SCi Entertainment, the publisher currently in charge of the Tomb Raider franchise, looks to be in serious financial trouble following a recent report suggesting that it may run out of money as early as this summer with a life-saving takeover looking increasingly unlikely. A report in The Sunday Times illustrated the problems facing the company, with chief executive Jane Cavanagh's position described as "untenable" by shareholders increasingly exasperated by the desperate financial situation. An analyst was quoted as saying that, "It seems likely the company will run out of cash by May or June. Since it is now delaying the release of its new games, it will need this extra cash just to keep the lights on." It is thought that the company would need to borrow £30 million to stay in operation and although Time-Warner and Ubisoft are rumoured to be interested, SCi Entertainment admitted that it "no longer believes that a sale of the company for its full value is likely to be achieved". The publisher's great white hope for the year, Tomb Raider: Underworld, has been hit by the difficulties, with the release now being pushed back to Christmas 2008. Oh my. SCi plans for bankruptcy in May and Tomb Raider Underworld is slated to be released seven months later. Since SCi is essentially Eidos' daddy, the Tomb Raider series will be greatly affected, with a good possibility that it may end with TR:U canceled or abandoned entirely come summer. I hope it's neither.

VonCroyJr.'s Superawsomeamazing playthrough of TR:AOD
I would update, but Photobucket's become unbearable. It tries to load so many glittery icons and java apps (even when I have most blocked), it never fully loads and just....guh. Anyone have a image hoster than isn't Photobucket or ImageShack?

VonCroyJr.'s Superawsomeamazing playthrough of TR:AOD
Well, no one posted after the update two posts up so I saw no point in continuing. I'd gladly pick it up again if people regain interest, though. Oh, and by the way, if I do pick this up, it will most definitely end with a few Boaz shots. There is no way I'm dealing with that...thing again. Bah. Bah, I say.

February 2008 PSM Tomb Raider Underworld First Looks Review
Thanks Gia & Tom. I really hate that everyone compares TR:U to "Uncharted"; they're honestly worlds apart. Uncharted's more of a shooter with adventure elements and TR:U (and TR in general) is an adventure with shooting elements. But that's not what the thread's about. Didn't AoD use motion capturing, too? Of course, I think everyone just ignores AoD.... Of course, AoD probably didn't have an Olympic Gymnast doing the motion capturing*. *: Source Footage of Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker, the woman doing Lara's motion-capture in TR:U I won't mention how "Moneymaker" is the most absurd last name ever....

The Last Revelation doubt
Welcome to LCO Stewie. Well, you're going to have to specify what level you're on, since you can get the Uzis in multiple levels (Tomb of Seth(1), Sacred Lake[second visit](2), Inside Menkaure's Pyramid(3), and Khufu's Queens Pyramids(4)). (1)Collected as a secret near your first encounter with the rope (you have to jump a massive spiked white....thing and fight off some dogs) (2)In a small room left of the large pillared room accessible from the area above the pillars (3)Collected as a secret near the level's end (involving jumping from a slope into a patch of spikes [i assume into an un-spiked area, my memory is foggy]) (4)Part of an "armory" of weapons that can only be collected if you have the General's special set of keys ^^^hopefully those helped jog your memory if you don't remember what level you're on (understandable, the game is extremely long and confusing at times).

The Rant Thread
Short version: Tomb Raider: Legend for the PC is awful and no one should ever be subject to it. Long(er) Version: TR:L for PC has terrible controls, grainy graphics, sound problems and just generally, nothing feels "right" with it. I guess it just doesn't like my computer and the graphics/sound problem isn't entirely its fault. However, since my computer can run top notch games (Half Life 2, Call of Duty 4, etc), there's no reason it should have issues running a "last gen" title. The only thing good about TR:L in my mind at this point is that it somewhat revived the public's opinion of the franchise. Also, it should be noted that I like Anni and I think Underworld looks awesome. CD just didn't do things quite right the first go around. Not right at all (for PC at least). I may play more and change my opinion, but at this point I'm ready to resign myself to being a "Legend hater" and be done with it. :S Merry Christmas.

Problems whit Level Editor
Simple, the manual should help explain all of that. Get to it like I explained before. The manual walks you through how to build a tutorial level, mirroring the "Playable Tutorial" in the TRLE exe. It can be vague or just plain not cover an aspect, so feel free to search around online or you can always ask here.

Tomb Raider 4 will not install
What a way to ring in the holiday season, technical problems! Anyway, this is what I get when I put in my TR4 disc: Looks like a normal configuration screen, yes? Well, it would be, if I had the game installed. I've searched my whole computer for /anything/ related to Tomb Raider 4 and promptly deleted it, hoping that I could fix the problem myself. After ridding everything TR4 related, I popped the disc back in and it was more of the same. Maybe I had uninstalled it incorrectly? For the record, the file for TLR wasn't one of the things I simply threw into the Recycle Bin. How do I convince the game disc that there is no tr4.exe on my computer and that it can install the game? (Also, I've tried clicking all of the other buttons, including "uninstall", and all they do is close out the autorun box.)

Problems whit Level Editor
If you go to "All Programs > Core Design > Tomb Raider Level Editor > Documentation", there will be a manual that could help you. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to run it, though (the manual). Although the manual only helps with level building and not the Room Editor crashing or whatever problem you might have technically. I remember having trouble with the "load last autosave" box that came up at the start of the program, which will freeze the entire Room Editor if you don't pick an option. The problem is, half the time the stupid box goes away before you can even click something. To get around this, I use Tab + Enter which automatically selects an option. If that's not the problem you're having and I just rotted out my finger tendons for nothing, then please elaborate. What exactly is your problem with working the RE? We can't help you otherwise.

Problems whit Level Editor
Since the LE can have multiple purposes, I'm afraid you're going to have to be a bit more descriptive. A)Are you having trouble launching it? B)Downloading it? C)Installing it? D)Playing custom levels on it? E)Or do you not understand how to work the Room Editor? A)Try restarting your computer/re-installing or re-downloading it. B)Look around for a different host; I've had to do that before. C)Make sure your computer is up to snuff (i.e hard drive space, etc) D)Go to a site like Lara's Level Base or TRLE.net to find a level to download. I recommend using TR Level Manager which does the majority of the "dirty work" for you. E)The official manual, which should have come with it, should help you, although I prefer fan-written tutorials. I hope I helped you at least a little bit.

VonCroyJr.'s Superawsomeamazing playthrough of TR:AOD
Really sorry about the lack of updates lately, It's just been on the back of my mind. * Anyway: St. Aicard's Graveyard Woah, what's the rent on an apartment over here, a handful of jellybeans? Okay, so Pierre and whatsherface broke up and she proceeded to get an apartment within looking distance of her ex's cafe. I think all the scorned lovers will agree with me when I say: What were you thinking?! Lara, it's bad enough that she has to live above a graveyard and across from her ex's shop, you don't have to rob her.** *sigh* Maybe if I don't say anything we can have a nice stroll across a surface for once. *walk walk wa---OHGODRUNNONONO!* ....I wouldn't want to live in an apartment with a walkway that could crumble and topple onto me at any given moment. Yes, when dogs come up to me I pull out a gun and shoot them. Lara is one cold lady. :S You can just cut the irony with a knife! This would look hilarious to a bystander. Lara's just strolling through a graveyard (which is weird enough) and proceeds to bash in a tomb's door, pick up an item and walk out calmly. ....It doesn't help that this is the aforementioned item. No, this isn't Core trying to be edgy at all. I mean, it's only a goth running from the law with blood on her hands tipping over a statue of an angel. *:Let's just say that the days of screenshot based threads may be getting shorter and shorter. **:But I guess she deserves it; she's just staring at the wall and everything while a stranger working for her ex walks around her apartment. :S

Persian Ghetto (pt. 2) a.k.a Not Part 1 Useless trivia time! There are posters like these all over the level, and those names in big print are the names of programmers, level designers (DIE), etc. I'm flattered. It's just completely pointless bringing this up anymore. *sigh* So, she steals a wedding ring from a church. Well. Ain't that special. Eternal damnation ahoy! I bet Lara'd like to be in the bike's pos--NO I CAN"T SAY IT! *gag* Who literally flushes money down the toilet?! Crazy French. Le Serpent Rouge The most awful video game music you'll ever hear Yay, our second kill! Yes Lara, pick the box of pills up off the French dance club's floor. This is completely acceptable and you won't black out at all! "Ooh, I wonder what this switch do---OH GOD MY EARS TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF!!!" Lara's arch-enemy: the box.* I would note how difficult this jump can be, but then again, she's jumping onto an oscillating light ficture instead of, I don't know, taking the stairs ** Yep, one of AoD's puzzles is changing a lightbulb. Height of action/adventure, you bet! If you find this, you better find the ticket office, because Lara won't part with this thing for some reason if you don't use it. I still have it currently, in Vault of the Lux Varitatis. *:It took up to fifteen tries for her to actually get on top of the thing since some genious at Core decided not to let Lara simply climb up onto a waist high box. **:Although it's also an option that she's commiting suicide since she knows her game is going down the tubes at an alarming rate. This is the most likely option.

CARVIER'S APT. a.k.a I think someone needs a nap... So, the murder happened, what, twenty minutes ago? How does Carvier (stupid French last names, I used to pronounce it "Car-vee-air" before I played the game) know about it already? Oh AoD plotholes, you do make me laugh! Temper tantrum in: 3.... 2... 1... Wow. That's right Lara, after getting on the woman's bad side, feel free to rob her. PERSIAN GHETTO (Pt. 1): a.k.a Lar' gon' get shanked "Now I know how a bum must feel..."* Oh Lara, you sick, sick kleptomaniac. Also, who would even consider eating an opened chocolate bar laying in the dirt? What is she, five? I'm guessing he doesn't get much buisness, considering you have to climb on top of a train, scale a mesh fence, and jump like a Gazel twice in a row to even get close to the platform he's on. Since there are so many people around to hear us and all. ** I wouldn't want to sleep with a guy that has a face that looks like it got caved in by a blunt baseball bat to the face. But then again, this is AoD Lara so who knows. How Lara got information of The Sleeper from some horny chav I'll never know. What I do know is that Werner's Journal never updated past this point. Glitches. Hmm. I wonder why a bundle of Euros would be on a doorstep? Maybe some poor chap just dropped it carelessly? Maybe (probably, considering the location), it's drug money. Yes, very intelligent thing you did there, Lara, stealing from a drug dealer. Ooh, burn! Yes, Tomb Raider, you're so edgy by making a nonchalant sexual reference. Not to mention that your protagonist is a sex symbol. Calm down KTEB'rs, or I might have to get my boomstick. No arm movement whatsoever! Animation at its finest! Huh, somewhere I think I remember hearing that Lara "only plays for sport". I'm probably crazy, though. *** This followed the last comment. How exactly could that even start to be taken as a joke?! About the Monstrum no less! Pssht, who needs proper punctuation, right, Core? *: So...the commuters just /ignored/ the passed out woman that smells like blood and wet sewage all night? Of course, I think people ride the city bus like that every day. :S **: How can one "die pretty"? That's disturbing beyond belief. ***:*sigh* I know some moron's going to come in all "That was TR1!!!" Yes, yes, I know this. And I'll pop you because you don't get sarcasm.

VonCroyJr.'s Superawsomeamazing playthrough of TR:AOD
I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! (No, not the chest shot, you pervs) DERELICT APT. BLOCK a.k.a: Police out of nowhere! Lara nearly gets her head popped open by the police, escapes into a direlict building, and calmly walks upward. My guess is that Lara's new to this "running from the government" thing.* So, there was a random concrete boulder hanging precariously on the roof? derelict indeed. Hell, that doesn't even make sense. INDUSTRIAL ROOFTOPS a.k.a: Running on slick metal without getting a concussion! Okay, so Mr.IneptHelicopterGuy has a clear shot at her, and she's moving extremely slowly on a slick telephone wire. How this level got past the 00:00:05 mark is beyond m-- Never mind. Why are th--? How? Oh, I give up. The bandages are relatively pointless anyway. Okay, all I see is a big empty room with some horribly textured block on the bottom. What exactly was this "warehouse" used for, again? Lara obviously has been spending too much time around Larson. That or she takes grammar lessons from Scarlett O'Hara. Ooh, doggy! Although Lara's Soap Opera-easque "AUAUGHUHNH!!!!!" makes it okay. ** So to wrap up the night, Lara's [supposedly] murdered some creepy old geezer in a needlessly extravagant way (RIPPING THE IRON OUT OF HIS BLOOD), barely evaded the cops, robbed some poor sap's home, nearly got a shriveled lung from some unknown green substance, somehow managed to run on slick metal, and jumped ten stories down face first into a massive garbage bin. ... Damn Lara knows how to party. *:I would mention Nevada, here, or London for that matter, but no. No. That's Tomb Raider III. That game was awful. Which means: GUESS WHAT GAME I'LL SAA-IFY NEXT!?! **:I find enjoyment out of every time AoD Lara dies. ^-^

VonCroyJr.'s Superawsomeamazing playthrough of TR:AOD
Finally! Although I don't know if anyone except Gia and Boaz were actually anticipating this OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: I like Tomb Raider: Legend. I'll openly bash Angel of Darkness throughout the thread. Get over it.* OBLIGATORY EXPLANATION: Although this is the third of the "SAA" series, there's probably someone out there in LCO land that doesn't know wtf. The "SAA" series is pretty much me playing whatever TR I feel like playing, and chronicling it with screenshots, usually with (hopefully) funny comments at the bottom. The first was TR4, second was TR:C, and now....oh dear god....I'm playing TR:AoD. Enjoy! I would get an obligitory chest shot, but that would require me to move AoD Lara around more than I have to, and no one wants to do that. ** I'm French, I'm French, listen to my oh so overly-thick French accent that's believable for all of five seconds! That's a....different way of starting the game. Considering you probably skipped over the cutscene that was in "current times" to get to the menu screen. What kind of idiot remarks this about a garbage bin?! Of course it's climbable, you moron! It looks like grandma forgot to pick up her medicine! Is Lara going to be all good semeritan and ring the doorbell? Ripping the guts out of a bumbling fool Stealing grandma's medicine Ripping the guts out of a bumbling fool Stealing grandma's medicine Breaking and entering At first I thought this was a typo, but Jonell actually said it. Then I figured out that it's some crazy brit way of saying "pry". Jeez, woman! You went to, like, five different private schools! You have parents with more money than God! Why can't you form a simple sentence correctly?! So, in retrospect, you'd have to either jump three rooftops or go up a bajillion flights of stairs to get a gun that doesn't even have ammo in it. I don't see how anyone found this useful. Yes, it's always intellegent to return to a place you just broke into and practically ripped apart. Ripping the guts out of a bumbling fool Stealing grandma's medicine Breaking and entering Robbery Announce it to the world while you're running from the cops, yes! This isn't insane at all! Ripping the guts out of a bumbling fool Stealing grandma's medicine Breaking and entering Robbery Murder (I'll only count this once, since she apparently finds it apt to do it over and over again) *Okay, so I kinda like AoD, too. **:Except TRF

Tomb Raider on Windows XP
All is good now, I got the game to run and all the sound effects/FMVs/graphics are displayed as they should (there's an ever so slight lag in sound but as I said, it's /very/ slight, probably from it being a 12-year-old game) I'm already on City of Vilcabamba (stupid wolves nearly killed me!) Oh, and THANK YOU SHRENSH!!!!! You're the sole reason I'm even able to play TR1.
-
Tomb Raider on Windows XP
Considering that I can't, how can I set up the game to run on DOS Box? !!!I'm getting desperate!!!

Tomb Raider on Windows XP
Yes, that's the "Tomb Raider Installer" I had mentioned above. *pondering the legality of DOS emulators*

Tomb Raider on Windows XP
I installed TR1 today (finally found it after looking forever ) and installed: Glidos Tomb Raider Installer VDM Sound Tomb Raider As directed, I typed "dosdrv" into the command line to enable sound in the game. After that, I opened Glidos and ran the game. Fundamentally, the game works. You can move around and it doesn't crash. However, there's no sound at all except for the looping main theme, and a massive Glidos logo that takes up easily 95% of my vision. There's no way the people that made Glidos/VDM Sound wanted me to play the game like this; so what's wrong? I heard that there'd be a Glidos logo, but I'm having a hard time believing it meant that there would be a huge twirling "Glidos" object (yes, object. Lara can collide with it). I knew setting up DOS games was hard but woah.

The Rant Thread
Okay. Who programmed Kurtis Trent's aiming system? A monkey? I could've beaten Boaz by now, it would've even been easy, if Kurtis didn't move like an idiot while in combat mode. The main problem I'm having is that Kurtis is /really/ stubborn when it comes to aiming, moving, /or/ holstering while he has his gun out! More often than not, he'll aim at thin air. The few times I actually get him to shoot Boaz's face, thus letting her spew goo, he aims at her face fine. Does he aim at the flaps that he has a clear shot at? Of course not! I've tried hitting the roll key, which apparently changes targets, but he either doesn't change targets or rolls like normal. When I'm trying to actually holster my gun and run to a different area, Kurtis flat out won't if I'm moving in any way. So the programmers expect me to /stop/ in the middle of running from a massive poison spewing mutant to holster or bring out my weapons. That's intelligent. Also, Kurtis seems to outright stop before I do anything. So heres the situation: Kurtis can't move very well with his guns out, so I holster them until I need them. He stops to holster them. I jump away from Boaz, who's getting ready to bite me since Kurtis stopped dead in his tracks. I either get severely hurt or get killed. I only have a box of pills, two candybars, and a large medipack. Okay. One question: CORE DESIGN, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU PROGRAMMED KURTIS' COMBAT?! Kurtis himself is the /only/ thing that stops me (and pretty much everyone else) from defeating this level. If I was in control of Lara Croft, I probably would've defeated Boaz on the second or third try at the most. But no. I'll probably be stuck on this level for months because of this idiotic secondary character thrown in at the last minute. Jeez. I just don't understand why they had to make Kurtis' controls so different. Couldn't they have just put Kurtis' textures over Lara's and changed her a bit so Kurtis could look more masculine? That's what pretty much everyone else does when you change characters in a agme, why could Core? Oh yeah, I remember. Because they hate their fans. Obviously.

Guess which game is this?
Gah! Who would want to do that to poor Lara?! Anyway, it looks like any popular FPS circa 1996 (I can tell since the game uses the TR1 model and generally looks ancient) Wolfenstein 3D? Duke Nukem? (Most likely since it's had TR easter eggs hidden in its games before) Doom? You must tell us!

VCJ's superawesomeamamzing playthrough of TR5
:woho: BONUS UPDATE :woho: Mountain-trekking in TR2's Great Wall as requested by Phantom_2040 Play the Great Wall level until just before dropping down to get a key and face a tiger (you encounter four crows just before). Get on top of the rightmost block closest to the locked door. Make a running jump from the edge of the block. You should land inside the yellow circle (I always veer Lara to the left during the jump; I'm not sure if this is necessary or not). Continue on the path, jumping any slopes that might get in your way. Now for an extremely difficult running jump. From the last square of the path, hop back and make an angled standing jump to the arrow points. This will probably take several tries; if you fail, you'll slide down a slope but will not fall to your death. Just repeat until you land it. Follow the path pointed out in the second arrow, again jumping any slopes that get in your way. Again, at the end of the path, make an angled jump. However, this time it's a much simpler standing jump. Follow the path to its edge. At the path's end, make a standing jump and grab to catch hold of the stone building's roof. Enjoy the view a bit, and then move on. From the far right edge, make a running jump to land inside the circle. Run a cross the path until its end. Lazy developers! How dare they not texture something no one was meant to see in the first place! Yippe for exploring usually closed off areas in TR!

VCJ's superawesomeamamzing playthrough of TR5
The final update! ^-^ Red alert! a.k.a "We've...found....haaaaaagh! *dun dun dun*" Yep, that's a surefire way to resolve the situation! Blow up the side of the building! Okay, maybe since it's near the end of the game there'll be no more surprises....* &^$&(%$^&(&%$*^$#!!!!!! So wait, the protective lasers oscillate?! Geez, I think VCI has the worst security ever** Either Lara's grappling gun is busted, or the developers couldn't be bothered to make a code for a gun Lara could swing on. Probably the ladder. I've been gone for all of ten minutes and Mr.Triggerhappyhelicopter's already wondered off. Such a loyal police squad.... That's, you know, not where I shot at at all, but whatever... Hm....I always thought latex didn't burn that easily. Eh, then again, your entire entity doesn't turn into a roaring inferno when your foot grazes a fireplace, either. But you try telling CoreDesign that! I got chiiiills They multiplyin' and I'm looooosing contro-oool Cause the poweeer you're suplyin'... *dum dum dum* It's electrifyin'!!!! As if the exploding gas tanks, rail-gun equipped helicopter, noxious gas, and indestructable metalic men weren't enough... There's just no way that the ending could be unsatisfying and answer very little questions! Just no way I tell you! ..... Hm....let's try and think up a picture that sums up the entire game...OH I KNOW! *: If you're going to have at least one "surprise" in every level, please make it something other than "non-menacing walkway crumbles suddenly"! At least CrystalD doesn't have any surprises! ... And then I remember the Qualopec switch room **:Also, the "pop a water-tank to reveal lasers" thing is the most cliche spy "trick" ever.
