It's not just the button-mashing quick time events that are annoying me, it's also the bits like or Whenever I get stuck, it's because I'm having to repeat one of those scenes over and over, and it's getting a bit old. I really love the game, but I wish they'd put more puzzles in it instead of these scripted events.

58% done. Had to quit out a bit earlier because the graphics decided to pitch a fit in the middle of a rather intense battle (disappearing objects and multicoloured lines across the screen), then it did this when I went to the menu: It was all fine when I quit out and then restarted the game, but not the best thing to happen when I'm trying to murder people Apparently the game is giving problems for people with Nvidia graphics cards because CD gave them the game code too late for them to do anything useful with it.

Yeah, the constant quick time events have taken a lot of my enjoyment of the game away. Half the game seems to be quick time events, and they don't even always tell you what button you're supposed to be pressing. Urgh, it's really lazy game design that was only included so they could show it at previews.

I've just passed that bit, and I also had to turn it off for a while or I might have shoved my keyboard through my monitor. No advice unfortunately except keep trying, and try to look out for the spikes as much as you can (which isn't easy). I love this game, but the quicktime events and scripted sequences are driving me round the bend. I hate it when games take control away from me.

After the left right left right bit, I think you need to wait for the exclamation point to appear, and then press the melee button.

I take it you're at the part at the beginning where Lara has to pull a shard of metal out after falling down? I've just loaded up a new game to have a look, and can pass it fine just by spamming the "interact" key. What's happening when you press "E"? Does anything at all happen? Try mashing a bit slower maybe, and see if that helps. Also, I've seen one person who said that the graphics options he was using caused the frame rate to drop during QTEs, which was putting the QTE out of synch with his button pushing, so you could try turning your graphics options down (I'm assuming you're on PC as you mentioned pressing "E").

Absolutely loving the game so far, apart from the incredibly annoying quick time events. I don't like quick time events usually, but I'm finding the ones in this game even more irritating than usual because it's not always clear what I'm supposed to be doing. I failed one QTE in particular (involving a wolf) over and over, because apparently Crystal Dynamics and I have a different understanding of the word "mash"... I'm also a bit irritated that we can't manually save and then reload previous saves, because it seems like I won't be able to go and replay a specific part of the story if I want to. I really dislike it when games do that. But... I've played about 5 hours so far, and don't want to put it down either. I'm loving exploring all the different areas and collecting loot, and I'm enjoying that the combat is a bit more strategic compared to the previous TR games. I'm busy trying to get the 50 headshots achievement, but I suck at aiming so I probably won't be very successful

That's pretty strange. The last Steamworks game I bought retail (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) I was able to play right after installing off the disc. Have you tried this workaround on their support page? https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5357-FSQM-0382

You can install from the disc instead of downloading no problem. During the installation process you'll get a pop-up to enter your CD-key to link the game to your Steam account, or to prompt you to create a Steam account if you don't already have one. I'm happy this is a Steamworks game myself because I really hate having to mess around with CDs every time I want to run a game, and most of my games are digitally downloaded either from Steam or GOG.com these days anyway. I am getting the retail version of Tomb Raider though, because I want to add it to my collection

I loved the most recent Star Trek movie, and am looking forward to the next one, so I think this is great news if it's true. The lens flare thing was odd but didn't annoy me in any way.

That was my favourite level too. I did the same getting down to the cellar, but one of the party guests managed to follow me down there and gave me a bit of a headache. I was impressed at how differently I managed to solve that level in my non-lethal and murder everyone play-throughs.

I've ordered my PC DVD retail version from Amazon.co.uk, because Game didn't offer first class/express delivery and I don't want it to arrive a week late. If my Amazon order arrives a week late I might just give up on retail and switch to digital completely...

There's two games: Portal, a short two-hourish one which was released with Half-Life 2 Episode 2, and Portal 2, a full-size game that was released last year. They are both super awesome Apparently Guillermo Del Toro thinks so too, because it seems he got permission from Valve to use GLaDOS's voice in the movie

Good choice! I was going to ask for it for Christmas, but then I saw it on sale for 50% off and decided to get it now. I regret nothing!

I'm busy playing Dishonored, which I picked up during the last Steam sale. I love this game; sneaking up behind people and throttling them is my new favourite thing I think that when I'm done with my (mostly) non-lethal playthrough, I'll do it again and murder EVERYBODY, since I've heard that the game changes a lot depending on how violent you are.

Yeah, I got mine from GOG.com too. $10 for TR1, 2 and 3 in a pack, and $10 for TR4 and 5 in another pack, which is way cheaper than the $10 each they're charging on Steam. GOG is brilliant for old games

There's going to be a retail DVD version for PC in Europe which I'm probably going to get since I want to add it to my pile of Tomb Raider games. I just have to decide whether I'm going to go for either of the special editions. Might go for the Survival Edition...
